I created this poll.

I really love goth/punk ladies who have lots of tattoos and piercings, and who are really liberal and wild. I think they're the hottest females out there.

But the issue is, I'm very "preppy". Don't have any tattoos or piercings. I'm a Math major and I want to have a career as an actuary for an insurance company, so I'll definitely be wearing a suit and tie to work, which is fine because I already wear a suit and tie to my college classes!(My friends tease me.) Oh and I'm a Republican, but I'm not religious.

Soo my question is, if you are a girl with the punk/goth/emo look, would you ever consider a relationship with someone who was...well...the EXACT opposite of you. Cos I can totally picture myself settling down with a "punk princess", no joke! That's my idea of heaven.

I don't know why I have this taste, but I do and it's STRONG, and I'm worried about humiliating myself.

Cos there's this one goth girl at my college, and I always hold the door for her and smile and say hi, but she just ignores me, doesn't even say thank you! And yet she's friendly with everyone else.:(
So at the risk of crying "discrimination!" I wonder if she's this way cos of how I dress.

And I wonder if such an attitude towards guys like me is part of the "goth/punk" culture, because if it is I guess I have no chance.:'(

So just looking for a general idea, because (LUCKY ME!) my career will likely take me to New York City, which is where a lot of the types of girls I like can be found,(or so I've heard). Woohoo!

Oh and if any of you girls/guys have dated "preppies", I'd love to hear stories of how the relationship went, if you don't mind sharing.
Oh and if I generalize too much and offended anyone, I'm sorry, that was not my intent.

Thanks!:)

First of all, i share your interest with the darker looking girls! they usually got the best personalities if you treat them right! infact you'd probably think that i am a goth or punk if you'd see me!

I don't really consider myself to be one though but i do share their "disliking" of the preppies! So i know why they dislike them and so i can tell you directly that this might get really hard to find someone who's up for it!
But you must never judge all of them equally! the reason why goths dislike preppies is not just because the way you dress! but the way you act around them! when a goth sees a preppy he/she almost instantly prejudge this person and thinks that this person is going to call me a freak and babble on an on about how ugly and disgusting i am.

Therefor they rather avoid preppies! yes! they judge people too! everyone do!

It's all about first impression really! if you can convince the person that you might look preppy but you certainly don't act like one, then you're making progress!
don't expect to catch a fish on the first hook though!

Otherwise, there's the easier way!
All women! preppies, goths, nerds, they will all bow down to you.

If you just got the money!

Thanks very much for the reply, and I can see your point.

I'm the same way towards teenagers; I'm ambivalent towards them at first because I assume they are all immature, despite the fact that "logically" I know some of them are not.

I guess it's one of our human curses to be this way.

Thanks :)

Thank you. Liberal and wild...never heard anyone use those terms describing anyone ever before. But it is appreciated.
To me and a few people I know that are as you put it Goths, they're into personality more than looks. You may meet some girls who are more into looks [as with almost every girl out there] but everyone I know plus myself have only ever gone on personalities, similar interests and compatibility. Its good that you aren't religious, but you've lost points with me by saying that you're a Republican. Not that my opinion matters.
I myself have dated a few people who are the exact opposite of me, I don't mind. As long as theres some kind of connection...who cares?
Maybe she ignores you because you're too obvious about it, maybe a lot of people do that for her. Maybe shes just not interested or is busy thinking about something else. Maybe she has a test coming up and is going over the answers in her head. Too many maybes. Are the people shes nice to into Goth as well? Who knows...
It would help to know a thing or two about the cultures though. Maybe you should start checking out a few bands that fit into the genre. You actually may like those bands. It isn't rocket science.
The generalization isn't a bother much. Like I said before in this post, I have dated people who is an opposite of me and who I am. The only thing that was the problem in the relationship is key interests. For me, I'm really into my music and the books I read. He wasn't willing to at least give those bands a listen or anything. I took an interest in his interests, but he wasn't willing to invest in mine. Hence why it didn't work out.
But just find out what the cultures about, check out the music, read the literature...etc etc.

:< > wow yall beat me to the answers..pretty much summed up what I was going to say. But yeah getting to know the culture can help a little. Do some research and look up bands and what not. I don't know if you know this or not but just in case (you never know), Marilyn Manson, Evanescence, Nightwish, Slipknot, etc. bands like that aren't gothic =D...well I have to go now wish i could help more. I'll be back later hopefully BYE!

You think someone who is smart enough to grasp that what hes talking about are subcultures and even uses the word several times in his post would realize a little bit of background info on it would help. lol. But yes, I do [not] rock! lol.
