Hello, for being a bass player in Evanescence since now 8 months, I can tell you exactly what it is about that band that I really enjoyed working with.

First Amy Lee had a band in high school that you can google by yourself called "The Sad Tears of my Emotions". I think the name speaks for itself.

SO i'll go straight to the point, when we played together we were all calling eachother emos at home and on stage.

We also used to have special emo parties where we would just be sad and cut ourselves with razor blades. True Story.

I hope i'm answering to your question and I hope you all realise that being an Emo is a state of mind and that we in Evanescence have a really great time that way. Peace.

Why don't you go drown yourself in your shit filled toilet bowl? Because thats all your story is full of...shit. Plus your area thing says you live in France.Don't believe ya. Don't care. Just wanted to get a rise out of someone. And I'm bored.

I agree, I like Evanescence as a band not only for the lyrics but for the music that gets deep into the bones and chills with some songs. I have recently been introduced to a really cool gothic band(The Tea Party) by a Canadian friend who was atually goth at my age and he's been a great help to me a shame the band split though cos that's the kind of music I like.
And Dreadfully yours I wanna say thanks to you to for the list of goth/metal sort bands, still looking them up but I have found it to be a lot of help too :)

I am quite attached to AX7 and Bullet For My Valentine atm. not quite goth but hey..

You're quite welcome. And for the avenged sevenfold and bfmv thinger, its ok. Everyone has those bands that they will love regardless of what anyone else thinks. For my bf its Green Day [I always make fun of him for that] and for me its Matchbox 20 [yes, I love them! And he makes fun of me for that too...]. But everyone has some music thats always a part of you.

WTF is wrong with some of u people evanescence is not fucken emo r u dumb the. Song is not about the beat or the sound it is about the lyrics if u had a brain and listened to it every day like I do u will realize that it is like a slow pop rock song sure it sounds a lol emo but emo music has no meaning all it is is a bunch of fags screaming so don't think they are the same an I am sure alot of u have heard maybe one song by them and made up ur mind I have every one
of there songs and they do come across as emo but listen carefuly and one more thing for the person who said it makes them depressed. If it does that then fuuck off and stop listening to them for true evanescence fans they will know all it does is relaxes them and some times makes u feel happy if u have anything to say about that then add my msn. I guess it comes with maturity. I begin to chuckle at all of the "it's goth, it's not goth" crap and the poser issue. It adds up to silliness.

A goth is a person who was born one on the inside and is strong enough in their conviction to be a goth regardless of the negativity that is shown to it by others. I really don't give a damn if the music is country, rock or a music box. If a truly gothic minded person likes to listen to it, it's as goth as it needs to be.

Me personally, I'm into the whole black clothes, nail polish and graveyard thing and I can go to the club dressed up and headbang with the best of them. I fit every Goth description there is plus a few, and one day I will listen to Midnight Syndicate all day, the next Nightwish, and today I listened to Bon Jovi. In the end, I do as I please, and I dont give a damn who doesn't like it or what goth drops one in their pants because I'm not listening to Souxie and the Banshees.

In a sub culture that lives by it's own rules, it's absurd to have to follow rules others make for those who don't follow rules.

Ok. What got to me most about this is what you said about being born Goth. I mean really...you came out of the womb listening to Bauhaus? Maybe Sisters of Mercy? No. What about Christian Death? ASF? Peter Murphy? No? Exactly. You are born with tendencies toward darkness...and maybe you find the goth subculture and music...maybe you don't. Maybe I'll get flamed...but I don't care. I kind of think Siouxsie and the Banshees are overrated...but thats not the point. Yes, there is no rule book to being goth, but the common thread that holds Goths together iss the music. Not talking Nightwish, Within Temptation, BFMV, HIM or those bands. Talking ACTUAL goth bands. Like the bands I first mentioned and many others. Calling yourself a Goth without a true appreciation for the music is like saying you're a punk without ever hearing of the Ramones, the Clash, Joe Strummer and the like. Get my drift? Yes, you can listen to Bon Jovi, but Nightwish is not a band that comes to mind when I think of goth rock. Metal yes, goth rock no.

I believe they're like alternative rock. But they're not a gothic band. Even if they were a gothic band, listening to them doesn't always make you goth for the sake of satan.

Old argument. Evanescence is NOT a goth band, they're metal/alt rock...case closed. I win.

It is not gothic rock. Pop-Rock/Emo at its best. I hate how people freakin' say bands like this are goth rock. You want the true gothic rock bands, look to Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, Joy Division, and similar sounding bands. Listen to them, and compare them to Evanescence. I like evanescence. You are being a hepicrit by he way im emo and i do not cut myself and emo does not stand for emotional rocker its stands for just "emotional" okay...

In fact...I'll have that cookie back! Emo DOES NOT stand for "emotional rocker" or "emotional"...k? It is short for emotive hardcore and rose up from the DC hardcore punk scene of the 90s. Need more information? Google is your friend.
