What do you think of the current crop of 'Gothic'/'Alternative' writers?
I personally adore Poppy Z. Brite (especially 'Lost Souls' & 'Crow:The Lazarus Heart). I enjoyed 'Redemption' by Wayne Sharrocks but have yet to read the new novel 'Dominion' & obviously Anne Rice is a legend!
Any other writer's in the 'Gothic' genre worth looking out for?

I actually prefered Dominion to Redemption, although both were pretty good psychological thrillers. www.myspace.com/waynesharrocks
I too adore Poppy Z. Brite & Anne Rice, but not too familiar with Storm Constantine I'm afraid.
You could take a look at writer's like Charlaine Harris www.charlaineharris.com or Kelley Armstrong
www.kelleyarmstrong.com
Also Stainless by Todd Grimson was a good read
(erotic vampire thriller).

I've just returned from the Whitby Goth Weekend and was lucky enough to get signed copies of Wayne Sharrocks' novels as he was booked to do a book-signing event there as part of the entertainment programme. Really sweet guy and had plenty of time for everyone who had queued up to meet him. As for other 'Alternative/Gothic' writers(aside from the ones already mentioned)-you could give Graham Joyce or Margaret Atwood a try, or even Byron or Poe if you're willing to delve that far back?

I find Anne Rice books to be SO dull. She had an amazing idea and just couldnt execute it as well as she could have

Apologies-forgot to mention Laurell K. Hamilton & Yasmine Galenorn in the previous posting.
As for the Anne Rice debate, I must confess that I adored the Vampire Chronicles but felt that her later books never scaled that height again.
I'll get off the fence now, I'm getting splinters.

Not strictly 'gothic' but Ilona Andrews writes some dark fantasy involving vampires & alike...

I've read Lost Souls 3 times this past year. And I read most of the Vampire Chronicles. Did you hear that since Anne Rice found God she's going to write a final installment where Lestat finds redemption...Pitiful.

You should look into HP Lovecraft.

I can see where your coming from. I personally loved the books, but there were some points (specifically scenes set in the modern era) that were a bit boring and drawn out.

Me neither dude. Life's been busy. Too busy and not always in a good way. I missed talking to you through.:)
But anyways I'm good. How are you? Seriously, how has everything been for you? Are you still the happy, sweet, helpful Moth from last year or have you morphed into someone else yet?

Well everyone changes, I wouldn't say the change between who I am now and who I was then is too drastic. Never heard back from you, figured you took your friends advice and wouldn't call back.
As for me, lifes been alright. Looking at moving away from Michigan but not certain where I should go. I'm looking at going out west, at least for now. and depending on who wins this election perhaps north...very very north.

Well you are right about the change thing but sometimes people do change for the worse and when ever that happenes it really sucks(for lack of a better word).
Moving? I thought you loved Michigan. Why have you decided to leave?
and No, I didn't not reply on purpose. Being friends with you kinda happened arround the same time a bunch of other really f'ed up stuff happened. Dealing with it took along time. So i rarely ever spent anytime indoors, espeially arround my parents because they would pick up on my wierd behaviour. I know I'm not making any sence but all I'm trying to say is I spent like almost no time online.

I love some areas. Unfortunately Lansing's just a pit. I could never live here forever. I've never been to a place that has had such a separation between the upper and lower class. There is no such thing as middle class in this city. Your either a pen pusher down at the capital, or your working at some sleazy convenience store in the ghetto.
Detroit and Gd Rapids are okay, but I would much rather get out of this state.

Really. well that...sucks (lack of better adjective). So I'll take it your doing better now? You still have my myspace if you wanna talk about it and not have everyone one Topix overhear.

So if you do ever get out of Michigan, where will you go? Hey, are you still in school/college? You were supposed to graduate last year right?
*smiles* Moth, you're still a sweetheart. And thank you, but I can't really tell anyone what happened. It's complecated because more than one life can get totally fucked up if i spill. Unfortunately it invoves two people I love very much, so I can't say anything. All i can tell you is that perfection does not exist and I found that out in a way that has altered my life. I got evrything I had ever wanted and lost it just as quickly. But I've had time to deal and I am doing much better. Thanks.
How about you? I know you had an insane life too? How do you deal with it all?

Yeah I graduated last year. I got kicked out on the second to last day of school but I have a friend on the school board (Globey). So it went a little something like this:
Me (our hero) being the audio visual geek that I am, am sitting in my last hour class, which is an independent study. I'm chatting with a friend of mine (Clayton) and a teacher comes to us with a SD disc from one of the schools camera's and wants us to copy a couple track pics off it for her. Easy enough. She leaves and we pop the disc in. We find the track pics, after a ton of pics of her and some of the other teachers doing keg stands in the teachers lounge. Me and Clayton pause. I turn to Clayton and say "You know, the time comes when you ask yourself what you should do, and what you SHOULD DO. Long story short I put them online. they were up for a total of 3 hours and the school started getting calls from angry
parents. The teachers were pissed...or scared shitless.

the next day I get taken out of class and told that I'm suspended and so I'm going to miss graduation. Because the teachers decided to have a kegger in the teachers lounge and take pictures of it with the schools camera, on the schools memory card. and on top of that, the stupid Gym teacher gave me and some other kid the memory card. The principle was mad, saying that I stole the card, and he told everyone the pics were just of them drinking beer after a baseball game. yeah, bullshit. everyone saw them, and knew he was just embarrassed as hell. They called in a police officer to arrest me, the police officer heard the story, told them there was nothing he could do, and walked out of the school shaking his head at how stupid it all was.

Well we apeal to the school board and it was unanimous, I was allowed to walk.

at graduation I got the biggest applause. I was like a hero.

other than that lifes been kinda dull.
