Total hip replacements are more likely to fail for women than for men, according to a Kaiser Permanente Southern California study published today in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine.

Despite the anatomical structure of the women’s hip which is considered as the reason why they are at risk of hip implant failure, another thing to ponder is the hip devices used especially that of metal-on-metal hip implants which carry serious complications. Besides, metal-on-metal implants are linked to greater risk of device failure in females as well.
