Todd Bentley's revival in Lakeland draws 400,000 and counting

There are 34 comments on the www.tampabay.com story from Jul 7, 2008, titled Todd Bentley's revival in Lakeland draws 400,000 and counting. In it, www.tampabay.com reports that:

The revival has become a worldwide phenomenon. More than 400,000 people have attended, from more than 100 countries. In his online biography, Bentley says God delivered him as a teen from a "lifestyle involving criminal activity, youth prisons, drugs, sex, satanic music and bondage." He traces his fixation on fire to the Day of Pentecost in the second chapter of Acts, when the Holy Spirit descended with tongues of fire and a mighty wind.

In the Christian blogosphere, Bentley has been demonized. Religious observers say his methods veer toward New Age mysticism and the occult. Many call him a false prophet. In any case, his style has more in common with Austin 3:16 than its biblical antecedent: It seems borrowed from Wrestlemania.

Christians really are nut cases.

Isn't Todd Bentley the guy who did time for raping a little boy? But go ahead, Christian people send him your hard-earned money. He talks to angels!

What's frightening is just how many people want the tribulation to begin. What's with so many people wishing for the end of civilization?

And great, another cult. Freaks who have so little in their own life that they cling to what this demon sells them.

BTW, for those who don't know, the "rapture" is a new idea which has only been around for a couple of decades. It was created by a Christian church and is not mentioned in the bible. Yet another reason I'm an atheist, bunch of "men" making shit up so you fall in line.

Isa 6:1 ¶ In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.

Isa 6:2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.

Isa 6:3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy,[is] the LORD of hosts: the whole earth [is] full of his glory.

Isa 6:4 And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.

Isa 6:5 Then said I, Woe [is] me! for I am undone; because I [am] a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.

Isa 6:6 ¶ Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand,[which] he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:

I believe so.

From the Wiki Page on him:

"In 2001 the now-defunct Report Newsmagazine, a secular conservative publication, ran a profile on Bentley. In the article, they reported that his criminal activities as a teenager included more than one instance of sexual molestation. The article was graphic in details, summarizing Bentley's behavior as "heinous". In Canada, the criminal records of juvenile offenders are protected from public disclosure, however Bentley later admitted to Charisma Magazine that the Report Newsmagazine article was, in substance, true. This led to heated debate in the Christian press and websites about whether Report NewsMagazine had acted correctly in publicizing Bentley's crimes - and whether this impeached Bentley's position as an evangelist."

Healing Evangelist Todd Bentley Reveals Facts About Past Assault

Canadian evangelist Todd Bentley knows well the power of a testimony to convince the lost that no one is too far gone to find healing in Christ. Recently, he has also learned that when the secular media digs into one's testimony, confession may not be so good for the soul.

In a lengthy feature article published in the September 2002 issue of Charisma, Bentley, 26, acknowledged that at age 14, as a juvenile, he had been arrested for assault.

A March 2001 story about him that was published in The Report--a secular, conservative political magazine published in British Columbia and Alberta, Canada--offered a similar report.

But The Report story backfired when the mother of the victim of the assault read the article and informed the magazine that Bentley's assault had been sexual and that he had molested her son, also a minor, at the time.

Bentley served several months in jail for the crime, and five years afterward he gave his life to Christ. Today his crusades around the world are producing reports of healing miracles and thousands of salvations.

The Report writer who filed the original story about Bentley's ministry called him back to verify the nature of the crime. As a juvenile offender, Bentley's record was protected from public disclosure, and he said he had no idea The Report would then turn around and publish his acknowledgement of the crime.

"[The reporter] didn't tell me he was doing a follow-up story," Bentley told Charisma. "He was just friendly and told me what the mother had said, and I admitted to him in what I thought were off-the-record comments that it was true, but that it happened years ago and I had since been changed by the gospel."

Bentley openly acknowledges the rougher parts of his juvenile past when he preaches in public, including his near-fatal drug overdoses, criminal burglaries, physical abuse of his mother and several stints in prison.

But he said he has never talked openly about the sexual assault because of the stigma the crime carries and what he says is "the inability of Christians to forgive certain sins."

His advisers, who include several pastors and counselors, have advised him to refrain from talking publicly about the sexual crime for the same reasons.

So are you equating these nuts following Bentley with Republicans then? Interesting analogy.

You obviously have not been paying attention, but note that MY tax dollars have been supporting Right wing nut cases and THEIR messed up, anti-American people agendas for quite some time now.

This man is a Hollywood actor who went into the wrong line of work. He can draw a crowd, but there is nothing Holy about him.
To take advantage of people who are waaaaaaay too trusting, under the cloak of Christianity, is beyond reprehensible.
There will be a special place in hell for this man.

I'll bet a lot of the people attending Todd Bentley's revival were bitterly complaining last week about the Supreme Court saying child rape without murder isn't enough for the death penalty. And I'll further bet that they don't even grasp the contradiction.
