Someone handed her brain over to a cult? How is it any different than if she had joined the hare krishnas, the moonies, the falun gong or any other cult?

Brainwashing is still brainwashing, no matter which cult it is. How else could you explain a bisexual woman joining a cult that sees her a less than human for being a woman and calls her "evil" for not being straight?

Nobody ever joined a cult because it had facts and proof. They join cults out of desperation, emotional weakness and ignorance.

Atheists should rejoice. We have arrived at the point in history where an atheist embracing religion is a newsworthy event, while believers abandoning belief are a "dog bites man" story, so commonplace as to be not newsworthy. Rather than evidence that atheism is waning, this story confirms that atheism is making such progress that the conversion of an atheist is a remarkable event. Events like this are remarkable because they are rare. For every atheist who loudly becomes a christian, dozens of christians quietly become atheists.

The story seems to have this case for christ bs vibe to it. I mean maybe she's milking money from this? Something just seems pie in the sky bs. She's supposedly this well known Atheist blogger, although I have never read her work, but she falls to the ground over the tired stale morality comes from God argument? That erased her need for some kind of proof for God and then alakazaam She's wanting to be a catholic? Something just seems off about this story.

Quote: Raised in a non-religious household.. Unquote.

Some people 'find Islam' too. It is sometimes a case of wanting to fit-in with like-minded people. Such people are not usually the brightest.

If she was raised in a 'non-religious' household, that might suggest that superstitious beliefs are partly due to something genetic? More likely though is that they were 'non-religious' and not atheist. She may well have still been surrounded by superstitious beliefs. She says she “met smart Christians for the first time” during college." She hadn't met a smart Christian before she was, what, 18? In the USA?? Where did she live and was she home-schooled?

Now all she has to do is find convincing evidence to back up the three-for-one god-offer of the RC Church.

The missing piece seems to be her relationship with her catholic boyfriend. The catholic church takes a dim view of "mixed marriages" and usually demands promises to raise any children from the marriage as catholics. Considerable pressure is brought to bear on the non-catholic partner to become catholic.

She has read authors like C.S. Lewis, G.K. Chesterton, and Alasdair MacIntyre.

Maybe she hasn't read the bible yet? That might bring her right back.

Certainly that would make sense. She falls in love with a catholic and for family peace she converts. As morals go maybe she can't square away Catholics teaching people in Africa that it's better to die of aids and go to heaven then use condoms and stop the spread of HIV?

Considering that she's someone the cult falsely accuses of being a pedophile (she's bisexual), it's all the more bizarre.

I’d like to congratulate formerly atheist blogger Leah Libresco of Unequally Yoked on her recent conversion to Roman Catholicism. Particularly, I applaud her choice to join an institution that officially regards any same-sex sexual activity as “acts of grave depravity”,“intrinsically disordered” and “contrary to the natural law”, claims that it does “not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity” and that “the inclination itself must be seen as an objective disorder”, demands lifelong celibacy of gay people, and has repeatedly solicited donations from its parishioners to fund campaigns to ban gay marriage in multiple states.

Additionally, I’m quite proud of her for choosing to become part of a religion that disallows any use of birth control for controlling birth, condemns any sexual activity that can’t result in pregnancy, excommunicated a nun for approving of an 11-week abortion to save a woman’s life rather than letting both the woman and her fetus die, and then revoked the Catholic affiliation of the hospital in question when its management refused to deny life-saving abortions in the future – because saving women’s lives did not reflect “authentic Catholic moral teaching”.

Congratulations on prioritizing whatever it is you prioritize over this.

I doubt there's any other organization on the face of the earth with more knowledge of what a pedophile looks like than the catholic church. They've covered up for many child molesters, helped many molesters find greener pastures, and run a veritable underground railroad for child molesters and the moral midgets who facilitate their crimes. Guess they never read that bible verse about how it would be better to hang a millstone around one's neck and jump inot the sea that to molest children.

Here in New England, w3here clam fishing is a significant industry, there is a municipal position for the "clam warden" who enforces the laws related to clam fishing. Prior to becoming pope, Herr Ratzinger was the clam warden for the catholic church, ensuring that the victims of clergy sex crimes clammed up, either with or without compensation. If anyone deserves to be cast into the sea with a millstone necktie, it is the prada pope, former Hitler Youth, Joseph Ratzinger, a/k/a/ Pope benedict.

And they do everything possible to shift blame away from the cause and onto an unrelated group. Every reputable study on pedophilia shows that homosexuals are least likely to be pedophiles, while the most likely to be pedophiles are heterosexuals who can't handle functional adult relationships (i.e. men who can't deal with women and hide as priests).

It's funny the fact that she's becoming catholic means she was never atheist anyway.

She was most likely agnostic.
