“And I say unto you, whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.”
--Jesus Christ

Barnes' Notes on the Bible:

And I say unto you - Emphasis should be laid here on the word "I." This was the opinion of Jesus - this he proclaimed to be the law of His kingdom, the command of God ever afterward.

This is the law of God; and by the same law, all marriages which take place after divorce, where fornication is not the cause of divorce, are adulterous.

Legislatures have no right to say that people may put away their wives for any other cause; and where they do, and where there is marriage afterward, by the law of God such marriages are adulterous!

People's New Testament:

“I say unto you,” we have here Christ's law of divorce.

He committeth adultery...because he is married still to his former wife, who is still his wife in spite of the divorce; so, too, if any man marries the divorced woman, he marries another man's wife.

Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible:

Causeth her to commit adultery; that is, as much as in him lies: should she commit it, he is the cause of it, by exposing her, through a rejection of her, to the sinful embraces of others; and, indeed, should she marry another man, whilst he is alive, which her divorce allows her to do, she must be guilty of adultery; since she is his proper wife, the bond of marriage not being dissolved by such a divorce.

And whosoever shall marry her that is divorced, committeth adultery; because the divorced woman he marries, and takes to his bed; is legally the wife of another man; and it may be added, from Matthew 19:9 that her husband, who has put her away, upon any other account than fornication, should he marry another woman, would be guilty of the same crime.

In Matthew 5:32 "causeth her to commit adultery also", by being the occasion of marrying another man, when she is still his lawful wife.

Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels’ Marital History:

He and his wife, Cheri, divorced in 1994, and she moved away and married someone else.

Daniels soldiered on, raising his four daughters, who at the time ranged in age from 8 to 14.

One day a few years later, his wife came back.

He was waiting for her.

They remarried in 1997 and have lived happily ever since.

When the Indianapolis Star asked about the episode, he replied,“If you like happy endings, you’ll love our story.”

Mitch Daniels did it right...he waited for his wife to come out of her adulterous remarriage.

Because Sandi Patty has not given up her adulterous remarriage--she has not come to repentance.

"Let everyone that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity." 2 Timothy 2:19

The simple fact is that according to God's Word--Sandi Patty’s new "marriage" is adultery as long as John Helvering remains alive--Romans 7:2-3.

"Lest ye repent, ye shall likewise perish." ~Jesus

So now, Sandi makes public confession that her extra marital affair began in 1991, while she was still married to husband John.
She made such a terrible fit when her first husband John had an affair and it just drained her.
She wanted pity and compassion all around for the turmoil John caused her.
She cannot paint a pretty picture for her affair.
Did Sandi advise Amy Grant on divorce and remarriage? They were friends since recording together for a song on Sandi's 1990 record.
An internet article "affair" delves into gathering public opinion on how to advise Sandi in her situation. Persay, if you were a Pastor, how would you advise Sandi?

Agree with you John1717, I know of a similar circumstance. Great scripture quoted .
Yes, Sandi and Amy Grant, and many other public confessed christian singers etc. have not come into full repentance. They continue to live in adulterous marriages. It's like they don't care what the Bible says, and all we get and read about are inexcusable excuses.

I'm a bit confused on those that oversee the christian music industry standards. What list of morals do they abide by for christian singers and musicians?
Some singers got dropped almost immediately by their label, while others were hailed on.
The Gospel Music Hall of Fame still welcomes the adulterers with awards. Sandi Patty got her induction in 2004, after divorce and remarriage.
December 2002 included Amy Grant's induction, along side of nice, clean cut, uncompromising
Pat Boone. He does not leave out Biblical standards, he refused a role with sex symbol Marilyn Monroe and refused to kiss Shirley Jones on screen because she was married in real life.
BTW, Pat Boone is working on 60 years of marriage to the same woman. Great example to christians.

Sandi Patti stated to CR magazine in June 1993, and I quote" some radio stations have pulled my music from their playlists unless I can provide them with something specific that would put their minds at ease".
Also additional quote" they will not be hearing any additional specifics from me-mostly because I have four kids who do not need to be in the middle of all that."
Well, if she was so concerned for her kids's sake, why did she divorce? yeah I know, she was having an affair during her marriage to first husband.
I guess she wasn't thinking of her kids, nor about GOD during her affair.
And if she hated divorce so much as article states, it would not have happened, apparently she did not hate it that much.
Divorce is not an option, ask GOD.
Divorce is the easy way out, it's what we all want!

Well, all the children from Sandi's first and second marriage have reached adult stage in life.
They are well aware of what has gone down in the previous years. Sandi's public confessions do not earn her any awards (lol).
What examples has she left for her children?
Her christian examples are down the drain, she has left an open door for divorce and adultery to be handed down to her children.
Yes, she had to leave Anderson, too much talk about her and Don. ain't it the truth.
yeah, the whisperers were around every corner, and they knew it.

Wrong is wrong and saying have a affair is wrong is not "casting the first stone". You can't stand up to sin in this society without being a outcast.

So you want the easy way out, ignore and overlook the sin.
If you don't stand up for what is right, you will fall for what is wrong. Food for thought Gary.

You said it Wow, Gary needs more Bible schooling.
He don't know that you can use the Bible to correct and reprove for righteousness sake.
The preachers do it every Sunday morning.
We as believers are not exempt from using scripture for the same purposes.

Instead of judging y not reflect on how God dealt with persons who too fell in the sin of adultery -e.g d story of David and Bathsheba!
Did David not confessed to God his sins?
Did he stepped down from his role as king of Israel when he exposed?
We often like to classify sin and in our zest for the "sinners" punishment fail in our response as followers of Christ.Jesus did not condemn people he advised them to - sin no more.
Why spend all our energy in pointing out others' fault when there r cracks too in our own lives?
I am very happy Sandi P has not allowed this episode to cripple her ministry to God. He's d one who will b giving us a reward based on our works. We often fail to realise that Jesus left heaven to come to earth and DIED for sinners .
We have all fallen short of God's glory.
Instead of acting as Ms., Mr., n Mrs Perfect when we hear about other people's faults let's pray for them n examine ourselves 2 lest we when preach to others b not a stumblingblock but a hand to reach out n hand d wounded ! we all have sin problem only Jesus alone can help . Pray for each other ! Don't curse nor condemn !

Jesus Christ, you people who are so damn hung up on Sandi Patty's sex life are absolutely pathetic. Jesus would have rebuked your sorry asses had you pulled that holier-than-thou attitude by trying to justify your own condescension and righteousness. Get over yourselves and get on with your own life instead of clinging to someone else's past--a past that is over 20 years old.

Don and Sandi lived in my hometown, Anderson, Indiana. I sang in choirs with their children. I also performed in the Character Counts tour with them. They are a wonderful family and wonderful people. So what if their relationship had a horrible start? They are both committed to one another and to God and no man has the right to judge. Their children were always nice, happy and polite and well taken care of.
According to Jesus, their relationship is still adulterous. Do you love Sandi Patty? Do you love her enough to tell her so?

Sandi's "past" is still the present. Are you a follower of Messiah? If so, why are you using his name as a swear word?

Amen, John. And this is actual love, speaking God's truth, so that people may repent and CHOOSE LIFE! The "love" of the world is the path to destruction.:(

Obviously, I'm not. She's got a great voice, and I'm amazed at how people like you "eat your own" by refusing to let someone get on with their life.

And that's some really twisted theology you got going on there, treating Sandi Patty as if she's committed the unforgivable sin. Are you a follower of Messiah? Wasn't Messiah talking to you when he said cast the first stone?

IDIOT!

It is simply called preaching the word in and out of season, isn't it?
It's been often quoted "wrong is wrong".
And if they are making excuses for Sandi Patty's sin, they've got their own sin to cover up more than likely.
The word of GOD is used for correction!

Yes, I am a follower of the Messiah. Since you have stated that you are not, I'll simply say that I am not condemning Sandi Patty in any way (which is what the people about to stone the woman, prompting the Messiah's comment re: he who is without sin was about.) Nor am I treating her as if she has committed "the unforgiveable sin."

Quite the contrary...the Word of God says that, if you love someone, you will tell them the truth (Eph 4:15). That Sandi Patty is still in adultery is not my opinion: it is the very Word of God. If she continues in unrepentance, scripture is clear: she WILL perish (Luke 13:5) This is also true of you, me, and everyone. What you think of as "judgement" I call "STOP! You're heading for a cliff! I don't want you to go to destruction!"

If you see someone about to walk off a cliff, and you love them, you will yell "STOP!!"

If you do not...you will stand by and say nothing while they fall to their doom.

There is hope for all who have not yet come to repentance. But there is a time limit, and God's patience with sinners (ie, every one of us) isn't forever.

Are you righteous enough to judge them thus?

Hey, what would you like to see them do? Commit suicide? Would that pacify you? Would that be enough to pay for their sins before you?

Rom. 14:4 - Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.(KJV)

Please give them a break! God has forgiven, healed and allowed them to move on. They are doing just that! It would be wise for you to do the same!
God bless you!

How can you have character and trustworthiness when you cheat (adultery) on your married mate ?
Ironic isn't it !
Let them leave, Anderson needs a good moral cleaning.
