There is a lot of assumption on your part. Lets get to brass tacks, shall we?
Lets say we ban all guns with the exception of hunting rifles and shotguns. With that in mind, let's say (god forbid)something catastrophic happens. Be it an invasion of a foreign military, or our govt or military turning against us. How much good is your meager little hunting rifle going to do against an M16 or AK47?
The Right to Bare Arms is not only to protect you, your family, and your property but this entire nation. It's your civic duty as an American to protect your country and fellow Americans whether your an officer in the Marines or the local grocery store clerk.

So no, the founding fathers would not have put any restrictions on it because they understood the statement "Throwing off the chains of tyranny." They put that in there as a fail safe.
