What a misleading headline! I attended that Sarah Lawrence commencement and Jessica Lange did not "harangue" her audience - she gave a positive, uplifting speech. She did mention a few facts about the current administration and I know that there are still those who don't want to acknowledge or be reminded of them but that was a small piece of her address One can read her actual speech on the Sarah Lawrence website and see for themselves what she actually said.

I second the comment that pointed out the misleading title. Harangue? You must be kidding! The tone of this article leads me think that the author was either a strong believer in the invasion of Iraq, or someone looking to sensationalize what was in fact a very lovely commencement speech. Either way, it stinks of an agenda, and poor journalism. For shame!
As one of the college's seniors who graduated in May, I can tell you that Ms. Lange's speech was by no means aggressive. On the contrary, she spoke of the importance of peace, positivity and compassion in all aspects of life, and her delivery reflected this. The 'political' bit was a brief and, in my opinion, rather minor component of the speech.
I am not deeply invested in politics -- I believe there are other means through which one can help others. However, it was absolutely appropriate for Ms. Lange to address the war, and the damaged nation my generation is inheriting. We graduates, both as citizens of our country and as humans, have great challenges ahead. Ms. Lange acknowledged this without partaking in self-satisfied political rhetoric. Although this article attempts to suggest otherwise, Ms. Lange's speech was heartfelt, graceful, and well-received.

Once again the closed minded will believe this true and the open minded will read the actual speech given by Jessica Lange and form a reasonable opinion!
It's a scary world we live in...and a lot of the scary stuff happens right here unfortunately.
If a celebrity can help to educate or open someone's mind to seeing there is more than one way to view world events, then by all means let the celebrities speak out!

Sarah Lawrence is most definitely a bastion of liberal thinking. So, yes, that would be most welcome there. I, for one, wish that I had been there for that speech. It was (and is) a great school. We learned many wonderful things, not the least of which was the proper use of the apostrophe. Dumbass.
