With Tootsie, Out of Africa, Norma Rae, he certainly left an enduring legacy, one of the last of the greats. Plus recently, he made a hand-held doc of himself interviewing Frank Gehry, getting to play out a life-long fascination with architecture. No ego there, just intellectual curiosity. I met him a few times, and loved the guy.

He was so insightful on the making of movies, too: like when he (affectionately) mocked stars like Robert Redford who blasted "the system" but were the first to demand the biggest trailer.

...just saw "Made Of Honor" last Friday (I was the only one in the theater for the 6:10 show). He looked great playing Patrick Dempsey's father. What a shame (that I was the only one watching his last on-screen appearance in such a dreadful flick).

he was great he knew how to bring out the wacky situations that men get into being involved with women and the crazy things that they do in a sence
educating us men.
