I think I would have liked him if I wasn't forced to read his books in school but I have vowed to go back & reread the books I hated to see if I can find a new appeciation for them.

That's a good idea, johnd, and I did just that with The Scarlet Letter and Ulysses. The former was actually not half-bad, the second one I still wouldn't force my worst enemy to read at gunpoint. But at least it was my choice to read, not some Machievellian sophomore English teacher who secretly hated kids. :P
