Since the parts have already been cast for Moe, Larry, and Curly, why not get Joe Biden to play Shemp Howard? He's Obama's big stooge and Biden wouldn't even have to act, just show up on the set. He's a natural.

These morons have clearly run out of ideas....what's next, American Idol, The movie?

Laurel and Hardy were way funnier. Abbot and Costello s'ucked except for the "Who's on First" routine. For sheer comic genuis look no further than the antics and movies of the Marx Brothers. Head and shoulders above all the rest.

Honestly, I think this Three Stooges movie is going to tank, and if it don't tank, it soitainly won't win any awards. You can't top or even equal the original Three Stooges, and by this I mean all the original Stooges - Moe Howard, Shemp Howard, Curly Howard, Larry Fine, Curly-Joe DeRita, and even Joe Besser (who, incidentally, is probably the least favorite stooge out of all of them by most people's standards).
Okay, there's Jim Carrey playing Curly, Benicio Del Toro playing Moe, and Sean Penn playing Larry. Carrey's funny, but can he really become Curly at 6' 1.5" tall when Curly was only 5' 5" tall? Benicio Del Toro is not really a major comedian, but a good actor, but, can he pull off a good Moe being 6' 2" tall when Moe was only 5' 4" tall? And Sean Penn, don't even get me started on that fag lovin pencilneck! He's not even mildly funny with those squinty eyes and puckered up rectum lips! He's definitely not a Larry! But, the damage is done, but can he pull a Larry out of his cornholed butt at his height of 5' 8" (some sources say 5' 9.5") when Larry was only 5' 4" tall? And what about Curly's equal as a 4th stooge, Shemp? Why not cast him as well and use someone like the actor John DeSantis who is 6' 9" tall to play him. After all Shem was a towering skyscraper of a man at 5' 5" tall. Joe Pesci (5' 4") would make a good Moe, Rob Schneider (5' 5") an excellent Larry, and Danny Devito a funny Curly, even though he's only 4' 11" tall. Mike Myers would make a good Shemp I think, even at 5' 7'. Foot-ware could be used to even out their heights to a degree. But, these would make fine stooges in my humble opinion. However, regardless of who is cast as the stooges, nobody will ever come close to the originals! There's just some things you can't duplicate. |
It won't be the same without the originals. |

I heard about this project several years ago. The only one I knew of that they had in mind at the time was the part of Moe to be played by none other than George Clooney! People, I am not kidding! I don't know if that is still the plan, though.

Judged: 1 You're right. It won't be. The originals can never be re-done to the same originality and glory. My only problem with a lot of people is that many seem to quickly denounce Shemp. Shemp was actually a stooge before Curly back when they were with Ted Healy, a childhood friend of Moe's. They went into showbiz together with Shemp, Moe's older brother. Starting in 1920, Ted, Moe, and Shemp were doing vaudeville for several years when they brought Larry on board in 1925 and became Ted, Moe, Larry, and Shemp. They continued to do vaudeville until they finally made a movie, SOUP TO NUTS, in 1930. It was their first motion picture and the last with Shemp, for he went solo with his own career in showbiz. So, Moe got his younger brother Curly to take Shemp's place. So, from 1930 to 34 it was Ted, Moe, Larry, and Curly. They did 12 more episodes with Ted, then in 1934, they broke from Ted Healy and went on their own as the The Three Stooges. Moe, Larry, and Curly lasted until Curly had a a series of strokes and when he could no longer function in the shows, Moe got their older brother Shemp to come back on board starting in 1947. People think Curly was the first stooge but it was actually Shemp, however, since all but one of his shows were vaudeville, people forget this fact. SOUP TO NUTS was Shemp's last one with Ted Healy, but the first movie, so, later audiences did not get to see Shemp unless they went to a vaudeville performance. I actually like Curly and Shemp pretty much equally. Curly never tried to be Shemp, and later, Shemp never tried to be Curly. They each brought their own unique, individual comic genius to the Stooges and I appreciate them both and consider them both equally original stooges. Honestly, I wish they had acted together, Moe, Larry, Curly, and Shemp in a FOUR STOOGES, if you will. That would have been doubly awesome! |

I can see what you mean. But what about Joe,I mean I liked him as a stooge, but he didn't make many because his wife got sick and had to stop.I know that Joe Besser and Shemp Howard stared in Africa Screams 1949.But not as stooges

Of the 190 short movies that were made following their career with Ted Healy, Curly was in the first 97, Shemp in the next 77, and Joe in the last 16. I'm not one of these Stooge fans that just adores Curly, tolerates Shemp, and hates Joe! I love Curly and Shemp pretty much equally, and, as I mentioned earlier, Shemp was actually a stooge before his younger brother Curly came aboard. As for Joe, he's okay once you get past his child-like effeminism and whiny character. But, that was his media persona, not his real-life demeanor. So, on a scale of 1 - 10, Curly and Shemp are 10s and Joe is a 6 or 7. If he'd been the original Stooge, then people would be loving him. It all goes back to people liking the original regardless of what that original is. If dog poop was the original and chocolate pudding the successor, the dog poop would win out simply because it came first! |

Norman Albert Maurer died back in 1986, so I can't really speak on that. I think whoever directs the Stooges movie should themselves appreciate and be a fan of the Three Stooges. I just hope they don't try and "update" everything and get all politically correct and throw in all the modern cliched, trendy, euphemisms such as things having to do with PETA, tree huggers, global warming, and such. The Dukes of Hazzard movie was a joke compared to the original series! I hope this new Stooge film will not just plain suck! |
|
There was a movie a few years back called "Stoogemania" that was pretty good. Does anyone know where I can get a copy? Amazon.com does not have it. I want to add it to my Stooges collection.
