I think "tranny" is an offensive word and should not be used.

I think that should be up to the people who are involved. Unless you are changing your sex, your opinion has no credence.

Oops. I said unless you are changing your sex. In the article it was in reference to transvestites. That line I wrote made the wrong reference, but still is accurate so far as his opinion.

There are transexuals and transvestites, which are different. By using the word tranny, which are they referring to? Also, tranny is used to mean transmission, as in a motor vehicle.

My fiancee was transsexual, so I think my opinion counts.

Frank,
You have made yourself irrelevant. No one else could do that as well as you have.

Sarandon is correct. Time for rationality and living in this world, not a Disney movie.

If that is true, then your fiancee's opinion would mean something, but yours is meaningless. I will abide by what those involved directly think.

So I guess we should ignore your opinions about abortion, equal pay for women, single family parents, the war in Iraq, DADT, etc.?

Don't you think you're being just a tad bit hypocritical. After all of the racist and xenophobic posts you've made, you complain about a term being offensive.

Inasmuch as I have been involved in some of those things and not others, I would advise that you ask me what experience I have before ignoring me or not. For instance, I do not have the word "tranny" in my vocabulary, at least until recently, and have never used the word before this thread. I have no experience with the people to whom it refers. Well, I used to live with a transvestite, but that was many years ago before the word appeared. If I want to know if it is offensive, I will take the word of someone to whom it refers. Frank has admitted that he is not one of those people. Now if he had said that these people told him it was offensive, then I would probably believe him. If you ask me on any specific topic, I would be more than willing to give you my experience with it, and my opinion. If I have no experience, I will talk to someone who has before making up my mind.

Sarandon should give her name back. It's not hers.
