the Gift

There are 38 comments on the Film Threat story from May 27, 2009, titled the Gift. In it, Film Threat reports that:

The modestly budgeted "The Gift" marks a homecoming of sorts for director Sam Raimi, who returns to his roots in the cinema of the supernatural after a largely lambasted spin on the big-bucks mainstream field with the Kevin Costner starrer "For Love of the Game". But unlike his landmark "Evil Dead" splatter laffer series, Raimi is going for ...

In this film Keanu gives us perhaps one of his best performances. Overall an enjoyable film.

He does do evil quite well, doesn't he. He researched Donnie Barksdale's character superbly. He and Hilary Swank really worked hard on the domestic violence scene. Interesting to hear about it, i.e., the wig she wore for that scene had a handle on it so he wasn't actually grabbing her by her hair and swinging her around that way. He was worried about hurting her but she was totally into it, LOLOL... A lot of att'n to detail.

I think I'm going to rent it again. I only saw it once years ago.

You want to hear something? I didn't even know that Keanu Reeves was in the movie. I watched it at somebody else's house years ago and I hadn't any idea until I started reading the boards that he was in it. That movie creeped me out. Paranormal, etc., although really interesting,(who doesn't enjoy getting their leaves/cards/chart read,) creeps me out. When it comes to Donnie Barksdale, all I remember thinking about him was what a son-of-a-bitch! Of course now, looking at stills, it's really obvious who it is. But you know, I have to give it to him. He can really transform himself. Nice that he doesn't have to spit when he's "in your face" or over act to emphasize the drama, like some actors have a tendency to do. A nice low growl is just rawggght.

I want to add that as much as he hated The Watcher, I loooovved him in it. I read someplace that he could give a shit how it turned out. But his disdain for the director translated very, very well onto the screen and gave his character just the right edge.

Screw action hero. I really can't wait for more "evil" and "dark" from him.

Our generation needs a "Vincent Price". Remember what Vincent Price meant to early Hollywood? If Keanu wanted to find a "home", suspense/evil/dark (not slasher) could be his home.

Couldnt agree more.
There was a movie called "Act Of Vengeance" one of his early, early ones. Rent it!!! Hes only in it like the last 30 minutes or so, but he plays a thug who helps a couple of other guys go after a Maine Worker official (Charles Bronson) and his family (Ellen Burstyn). Its a true story. Has lots of other stars in it. I have the VHS an I dont think it has a date on it. Late 80s early 90s maybe. He is not listed on it anywhere but he is in it Do like I did an skip to the last part, you will go back an watch the whole movie I assure you, but I had to see if he as in it. Yep, oh an I think hes in a bar with some rich punk kids earlier, I aint sayin no more, Ill spoil it. lol. I got mine at Tradin Movies or somethin like that. Check It Out.
Loved Vincent too.

Andromeda-1, when watching the Gift, the character Donnie Barksdale was portrayed so well that I also failed to recognise Keanu Reeves as the actor portraying that character. Only as time passed and stumbling upon mentions that Keanu was actually in it, I revisited some scenes and recognised him. In the Gift, Keanu brought the character to life, magnificent.

Ok -is this weird or not-I took my kids out to play some putt-putt yesterday and to do go-carts.
Afterward we went to Walmart to buy my daughter some new tennis shoes!! She's growing like a weed I swear!!! Anyway-we found some shoes and were going to the checkout -going thru the electronics section of Walmart-by the $5.00 bin and what is sitting right on top-like -calling to me but "The Gift".!!!! That is one of the movies I don't have of Keanus. I have it now!!!! lolol. Strange because this movie was just brought up here a couple of days ago!!

I don't know why-but that comedy sounds very familiar to me. I might have seen it. When my husband and I were dating we used to watch Eastenders all the time. Is that still on?
