But they don't tell the truth....They haven't reached their goal in years - but they say they have - they lie.
And most of the good prizes never even get auctioned off to the highest on-air bidder....the people in the offices up there on the second floor will outbid them by $1 -- I used to work with a TV telethon and we used to be told by the pros that for every $1 pledged on the air or over the phone you only actually collect 50 cents....people make promises but when it comes to writing the check they have "buyers remorse". I don't participate in any Salvation Army events because the Catholic Church says that Catholics cannot support the SA since it is in opposition to Roman Catholic teachings.

I don't think helping the poor and disenfranchised is against Roman Catholic teachings. I'm Roman Catholic and I donate to the Salvation Army, and haven't even come close to being struck by lightning. In all my decades as a Catholic, I have never been told or taught that I shouldn't support The Salvation Army. I think, Maura, that someone has been filling your kettle with bad information. Open your mind and your heart, and give a little this Christmas to those who are needy.

Maura...As a member of the Radiothon team, a Salvation Army board member and a practicing Catholic... the nicest thing I can say to you is that you are SO dead wrong!

If you did the least bit of research, you would know there is no insider bidding on any auction items. It is, in fact, forbidden by our team. Do not compare us to whatever telethon you think you have information about.
The number announced at the end of the Radiothon is customarily lower than what we actually receive when all is said and done because the people of greater Lowell have a generous spirit as evidenced by the huge number donations received during the Radiothon.

I have seen more of the spirit of generosity from the Salvation Army than I have ever seen from any Catholic organization. The Majors Henry have never proselitized. They show their humility in their actions and they make us want to work harder every year.

89% of all donations to the Salvation Army go directly to services for those in need. Food, fuel, toys at Christmas, Thanksgiving food baskets and clothing are just a drop in the bucket of what the work of Majors Patricia and Everett Henry contribute to the greater Lowell area. At the end of the Radiothon, we all go home and relax. Their work is never done! I can't say enough about the 'army' and it's work.

Fred Simon and Warren Shaw devote a significant part of their lives for months before the event to be sure it's a success. Team Micky Ward made a huge donation to our cause as they always have. The area merchants that donate auction items give with love in their heart for those of us who are in need.
Maura: It's not too late to give. Make your check payable to the Salvation Army Radiothon, 150 Appleton Street, Lowell MA 01852.

Please don't pass by a Salvation Army Kettle without dropping in a little something.
Thank You and Merry Christmas To All!

CATHOLIC CHURCH AIDS SALVATION ARMY DRIVE; Pastor of St. Patrick's Cathedral Calls on Parishioners to Give to War Fund.

"Mrs. Philip J. Bagley III began yesterday as a participant in the Dominion Christmas Parade, before eating lunch and heading to St. Mary's Catholic Church to hear a concert by The National Capital Band of the Salvation Army."
http://www2.timesdispatch.com/news/2010/dec/0...

When you give to the SA, you are supporting people in need, not so much the SA. It's a Christian thing to do if you can spare it. The Catholic Church and the Salvation Army have worked together on many occasions.
