I applaud the success of the Plaza Classic Film Festival. However we should honestly consider that the Plaza Theater is a venue that is rarely used.

A two week film festival is nice but with the rent SMG charges for the Plaza and the Philanthropy Theater only the largest and most pedestrian events can hope to succeed. Since SMG also manages the Convention Center there is little chance of real competition.

Fact: The Plaza Theater is dark over 330 days a year. Is this what the taxpayers voted for?

Kill the City leveled entertainment tax and provide affordable venues and we will have a vibrant downtown arts scene. The city should give the Plaza to a non-profit management concern that will protect the venue and provide affordable access.

There has to be more in downtown than cholo nightclubs to attract people who have the cash to spend. Check out downtown on any Friday or Saturday night. All you see are fat, bald dudes and fat, tattooed skanks all dressed in black. Other than these tajuaro clubs, there isn't anything else a FAMILY can do in downtown. This city needs to recruit businesses that cater to a wide range of people who will go there and spend money on entertainment, food, shopping, etc... Right now, it is all cheap and cheesy.

and then we can have a little fun,
