"Sunny" von Bulow Dies After 28 Years in a Coma

Martha "Sunny" von Bulow died Saturday at the age of 77 in a New York nursing home. She spent the last 28 years of her life in a coma after what prosecutors alleged were two murder attempts by her husband, Claus.

If I remember correctly, Claus divorced her as part of a civil settlement with her kids - which is very weird.

I suppose he was afraid that with the lower "more likely than not" standard found in the civil courts, they would be able to convince the jury that that he did this to her.

I don't see how the divorce was weird at all. The civil suit was over reinstating one of the children in the will traded for Claus agreeing to renounce all claims to Sunny's estate. That would mean divorcing her.
