Ponyo is wonderful. I saw it 3 times. It has gorgeous gesign , a fun storyline and a serious subtext. It is aimed younger that Spirited Away" but that's OK.

I loved this movie. In terms of animation I usually never expect much because I am used to US productions (except for a couple extraordinary ones)... but Ponyo is just plain amazing.
Hayao Miyazaki has earned a reputable name at his country for a reason, I watched My neighbor Totoro not too long ago and I was amazed and touched.

I like to see reflected on screen japanese values among an important storyline.

I am looking forward on finding more movies from this director and watching them.

But it is a shame to see his movies are not very appealing to the US market despite their greatness.

Gibli(sp?) studios usually puts out a movie here in the US every few years and it blows Disney's crap out of the water every time.

I was and still am a fan of Mononoke Hime.(Princess Mononoke US title) Castle in the Sky, Kiki's Delivery service, and Howl's Moving Castle.

I believe Spirited Away even won a few Awards here in the US when it came out.

I look forward to his next master piece

No, the Jomon are native Japanese and the Yayoi are Chinese or Korean descendants.

Ashitaka is the Jomon warrior riding on deer Rakkuru. He moved to the western region the Yayoi dominated. The Yayoi brought an iron making method Tatara from Asia and tried to rule Japan. The Jomon are nature boys and fighting with the Yayoi in this animation.

Mononoke originated from Mononobe, the Jomon warrior who lost to the iron armed Yayoi warrior Soga. This animation is telling Japanese history.
