Refn talks Jekyll

I do think that the choice of Keanu Reeves to play the legendary Doctor Jekyll from the Jekyll and Hyde stories in Nicolas Winding Refn's new film is a bit of a stretch, and it does feel more like a studio requirement than anything, but speaking about the casting Refn sounds rather more positive.

Okay, I got it to work.

Hrumph... if they had chosen to film the movie in England, then the whole "thing" would've been about accents and how "wrong" Keanu would've been for the part.

I like that they're making it modern day. The BBC version is the BBC version (which, I may add, has been done over and over again). This is a different movie, and it looks like a different time, but the premiss is the same. Also, it's nice to keep the American funding in their own country and to help stoke the economic momentum in their own economy and not abroad.

Keanu does evil so well. I bet he has a little demon in him he keeps in check that is just dying to get out and play. Hard being the colour black in a box of rainbow coloured crayons. You don't get to go out and play very often.:0)

Keanu has already made a movie called THE WATCHER sounds pretty much the same expect for a few minor changes ? Played in modern day america ?

He played a serial killer in the Watcher, yes, but it was a bit part and he wasn't a Jekyll/Hyde character.

And the whole thing here is going to be the two in one aspect :) That is what I'm really interested in seeing K do - clue, watch his eyes and body language, it will happen there and won't be anything like over the top I'll bet ;)

lol, i am excited, grew up on this book, yay!! a snail could play the part and I would be excited, but ke is a bonus. Bringing it up to date is great, but it is a shame it is not based in England, if modern the accent does not matter, but the streets are unique especialy in london, there are many obscure allys and small streets.

I will concede that England would be the better back drop. But if it's an adaption (modern day) then they might as well go all the way with the suspended disbelief and make it a five coupon ride.

Romanian born and bred ;) not even a linguist, this honor goes to my sister. I just have a good ear for languages, and had an unconventional English teacher who made me read more than the textbook.
thing is, my vocabulary is a bit mixed, as I've borrowed terms from all the song lyrics I've listened to, movies I've seen, books I've read...
You can tell what I'm currently reading based on the colloquialisms I'm using. my Pratchett phase was the worst so far ;):D

You know, I remember one day when my dad was in very good mood, I started asking him about actors he likes and I mentioned Keanu. He said to me that Keanu Reeves is a good actor, just not everyone’s cuppa tea, especially when it comes to heterosexual male.

He said he can understand why women like Keanu, because he’s a very good looking man. He said some of Keanu’s films he has seen actually are very good and some can be quite wooden. Overall he gave Keanu 8 out 10. Not bad right? Especially coming from a straight man! LOL

I've been following this forum from time to time and I have read many of your posts. I think you are one of the lucky few that actually gets along with their folks. Good for you!

Back to KR - I can't imagine in Jekyll and Hyde. I've only watched him in romantic comedies, sci-fi, or action movies. The one thing all these movies have in common is that is he is always the good guy. I can't imagine him as scary or monster like. This will be a movie I've got to see.

The Watcher - David Allen Griffin. Creepy character, but poorly written, imo.

The Gift - Donnie *****... Barksdale ;) quite an unexpected treat, that performance was.

personally, I liked his Don John as well. But probably because I couldn't take Brannagh's pastoral seriously.

but this Jekyll and Hyde project... could be something else. And the 'monster' doesn't necessarily have to be 'conventional' ;)

I doubt you will be disappointed. I love evil Keanu. LOLOL... he's so subtle and, well, so deliciously bad. I'm giggling gleefully at the mere thought.
