They demolished war Elementry and Berwind School...War Jr and the other little schools were closed...Big Creek High was the only one left now there getting rid of it? Does anyone in that area realise that a lot of people outside of War can tell you about that school? I went to War Elementry and War Jr in the 60s and 70s those schools held a lot of good memories for me. I now live in Indiana and I work with people who knows a lot of the history for the War schools. Some of them were even hoping to get down there and see the school and the town...The least they could do is make BCHS a museum or monument for the ones who graduated and made good in life...

The BOE didn't want to foot the bill to keep it and the town of War can't afford the bills either. So the only thing they can think of is to tear it down. It's such a shame that our schools have to be closed and taken out of our communities, because of the almight $. People wonder why their children's education is going down the tubes, they need to understand that Bigger is not Better. School and Churches are meant to be there for communities. And not Half way around the county. Consolidation helps noone but those that are looking for more MONEY!

I can't believe that! BCHS is part of history.. I never went there but I loved going through the school..it's like the school had frozen in time and that is what I loved about it. It made me sad that it would no longer be used as a school but to tear it down? It breaks my heart. I wanted my husband go to to Mcdowell CO. and go through the school and stuff.
