The casting was great in this movie, and I read the novel as well. Kate Winslet delivers a strong performance here as does Leonardo DiCaprio. They were both very convincing in their roles. I, for one, feel April Wheeler's pain as Winslet portrays this tragic figure with a stunning poignancy. Enigmatically Sam Mendes has been overlooked for his superior direction in this film. When voting for Winslet, I am sure many Academy voters recalled both of the films which have defined Kate Winslet, the peerless performer of 2008.
