DVD Review: Mary Poppins 45th Anniversary Edition

Do I even need to write anything about the film MARY POPPINS? It is one of the true classics of not only family films, or Disney films, but of all cinema.

What a joy it is to see the great, talented and forever beautiful Julie Andrews shine wherever she is. Whether she is singing, acting, dancing, directing or writing, she does it practically perfect in every way! When I saw Julie´s concert, The Gift of Music, on the net, I remembered Moss Hart´s words about her strength and also her determination to sing on stage once again. Julie has fought back all the adversities and built a career that has inspired so many people. Actually, I think Julie´s little secret of her perennial beauty is the hard work she has done all her life, taking so mauch pleasure in everything she does. Isn´t it amazing that few stars her age are working that much? What an extraordinary memoir HOME is, touching or amusing us through every single word. I am looking forward to her new movies, Tooth Fairy, Shrek 4 and Despicable Me. One thing I felt sorry a few years ago is that the Academy failed to nominate Julie as best supporting actress in The Princess Diary. And I have made a wish upon a Star!: I would love it if Julie recorded a new CD, which could be titled: Julie Andrews´Bossa Nova - The Sound of Brazilian Music. In her TV show in the 70´s Julie sang bossa nova with Luiz Bonfá, sang songs by Tom Jobim in concerts and recorded Ivan Lins´The Island. Now that her voice is warmer and richer - and still magically beautifuli, it seems to be a wonderful next step for this incredibly talented Dame!
