Counterfeit hundreds circulating, JPD arrests one male, looking for additional suspect

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)- Counterfeit cash is circulating again in Jonesboro and Jonesboro Police have arrested one man in relation to the investigation. Ervin Frazier has been arrested on first degree forgery charges.

However, they need your help locating Dennis Burgess. The 5'10, 190lb black male is said to have passed fake bills at some Jonesboro businesses with Frazier.

From all outward appearances, the $100 bills that were used look and feel real, but Detective Jason Simpkins with JPD says not so.

"Look at the bill. Look at the watermark that's inside the bill," Simpkins said. "Make sure that the watermark lines up and coincides with the currency."

When the funny money is held up to a light, you can see that the Benjamin Franklin is actually an Abraham Lincoln. Simpkins said two local businesses brought the counterfeit cash to JPD's attention.

"Reported that they had entered their businesses and used counterfeit $100 bills to pay for merchandise," he explained.

According to incident reports from the Jonesboro Police Department, the suspects passed the bills at the Dollar General on Harrisburg Road and the Ole Town Mall on Nettleton Avenue.

The report indicates the owner of Ole Town Mall realized something was off about the bills but her counterfeit identifying marker showed it was a real bill. However, after holding it up to the light, the watermark gave it away and she called police.

Simpkins said it's something all businesses need to do if they suspect something amiss.

If you know of Dennis Burgess' whereabouts, call Crimestoppers at 935-STOP.

Ervin Frazier's bond has been set at $50,000. He is due back in Circuit Court on May 29.
