Years ago I use to go to the Post Office to get large "eempty" Mail Bags to take to the town's Newspaper office so they could load the mail out type newspapers to sent to the out of town/state customers. At the newspaper office they might find 1-3 pieces of mail in a bag hung up on a bag seam.

At the post office they had all the extra bags thrown into a corner. Something the stack of bags was high and you would get a recent piece of mail. Sometimes the stack would be lower and you got older mail in the bags you picked up. Being a teenager, I would normally not check, as I was in a hurry, and they would find the mail in the bags at the newspaper office.

I never saw the lowest bags ever get used, who knows just how long some mail may have been in there?
