HWY 70 SHUT DOWN

Santa Fe, NM

#2 Sep 19, 2009
"We've been working with New Mexico state traffic controllers on this and there should be minimal intrusion. Just like a construction project, there will be signs and people will be rerouted to frontage roads. It should be confined to a period of about 6 days, from Oct. 10 to 14, and a lot of it will be at night."

BULL - the notices provided to NASA/WSTF and WSMR have indicated HWY 70 and frontage roads will be shut down for hours (much longer than WSMR can shut down the HWY for a test) and traffic will be routed to Northrise (Del Rey to Sonoma Ranch closures). So anyone having to work or travel in these areas is in for HUGE delays.

Don't sugarcoat it just tell the real facts.

Time to start calling your "elected" official and complain, because even for "6 days" it is a huge mess. They claim that its a holiday weekend (Columbus Day); but many WSTF and WSMR contractors work that day as we don't get all the holidays and shutdown days government employees do (would be nice).

I like how the Sun News will re-issue the story so the comments are lost. There were several comments on the previous story about road closures, times, concerns, etc. This story addresses it a little, but based on the threads in the last story - not sure the Sun News is investigating or getting all the information.

I'm contacting my legislators to tell them NOT to dare disrupt this filming because of petty concerns expressed by self serving individuals.Again the negative Nanci vultures do their best to drain any possible joy from life by what may happen, why don't you focus your miserable efforts on the City and its incompetent contract administrators blundering of the Lohman/Telshor rebuild,by the way isn't that a "local" contractor handling that mess?

They have to milk every event that makes LC seem 'big time' for all it's worth and there's not enough going on to fill the column space in the print version. What can you do? Remember the Lance Armstrong is he/ isn't he riding in Silver City?

Forget carpetbagging polititians, this town is all about riding the coat tails!

Are the comments on this article what you saw before? http://www.lcsun-news.com/las_cruces-news/ci_...

Petty concerns: not quite. One cannot even access businesses because of this fiasco. You can't get to the animals shelter to check if your dog was picked up. It took me over an hour to get a couple of miles; both directions. Seems to me that blocking the only road to WSMR and NASA is a major problem. Who ever approved this project is an idiot. Must have been a payoff.
