I went to Guyton Elementary School in Detroit in the mid 1950's. My auditorium teacher said that she was Charleton Hestons step-mother. I know that Mr. Hestons parents divorced and his mother married Mr. Charles Heston but what happened to Charleton Hestons father who managed a lumber co. in St. Josephs,Mi.? This has been a miystery that I would like to clear up. If you have any info please e-mail it to me. I hope I haven't been lying all these years when I say Charleton Hestons step mother was my auditorium teacher. Oh by the way my fathers chemistry teacher was Charles Linburgs mother at Cass Technical High School in the years 1939 and 1940. I know that's a fact.

Hey, Sue Adams..I also went to Guyton in the mid 50"s.. And Ruth Carter was my Auditorium/Drama Teacher too! Yes I do Believe that Charlton Heston was her stepson..I have seen it in print several times through the years. She was a wounderful drama teacher, and really had an impact on my life.

We moved to 318 Manistique in 1936 and I started kindergarten at Guyton in 1937 and graduated nine years later. Bill Weitschat was a grade behind me at Guyton and I was surprised to hear years later that he taught at Guyton. He grew up on Phillip Ave right across from the school. Today May 20, 2012, The movie "The Spirit of St Louis" was on TV.I recalled that Charles Lindberg's mother was a Detroit school teacher and lived in the old neighborhood so I went on the internet and found out that she livet at 185 Ashland which was the street behind us and between Korte and Scripps. That is also very near where that British Plane crashed in 1958. Then during further research I found that Charleton Heston's step-mom lived at 585 Marlborough which is also a block from the school and she taught there but after I left.

I attended Guyton in the late 50's/early 60's and I also had Charleton Heston's stepmother for Auditorium. I once saw him while we were at recess on the playground. He ran over to Mrs. Carter, gave her a kiss on the cheek and then ran back to his red sports car. Since I was new to the school, I didn't know who he was until I asked a classmate. Mrs. Carter told us many wonderful stories about her step son and I remember one in particular. She said her wedding anniversary was on Halloween and her step son flew she and her husband to CA, I think, to celebrate. That has been over 50 years ago, so I may be wrong about the destination, but she told us so many fascinating stories, that I couldn't wait to go to Auditorium. I lived on Ashland and then Piper later on.
