In stripped-down tour of 'Jesus,' a seasoned Neeley is the savior

Most scholars concur that Jesus of Nazareth was crucified in his early 30s. Ted Neeley is 64.

I saw the show on Thursday night. Overall, it was enjoyable, mostly because of a large group of college students around me who didn't seem to know what was going on ... and I mean that positively.

I couldn't get the idea out of my head that Jesus was being played by Dumbledore. Neeley was impressive, particularly in the second act. He also looked 64 years old, because he's ample, his gestures were odd, and he appeared hopelessly stiff. His age is apparent, especially when he bowed at the end, revealing the top of his head.

The floating off the cross thing at the end was also somewhat disturbing.

I'm a fan of the score and the show so I won't diss it too much. I also would not recommend this touring production to anyone who enjoys the show. It's just too funny.

Amazing man, amazing vocals.
I saw this performance at the Cadillac Theatre Wednesday night, it was so touching and powerful, im going back on Saturday.:)
i'm a 23, you dont have to be 40+ to appreciate what Ted has to offer! definitely one of my favorite memories ever.

Loved this performance of Jesus Christ Superstar. We saw it Friday night in Detroit. The music was wonderful and Tiffini Dodson voice was exquisite. I hope to see her perform again and hear her sing. She has a one-of-a-kind clear, crisp, singing voice that broadway must cherish.

Ted Neeley still has it even at 64. Thanks again for a inspiring show...
