Y can't we all let the past be the past. Instead of playing the blame game. Yes most native tribes sold out and built casinos which I don't agree with because as an American Indian Woman see no revenues. Let's learn from the past, not make the mistakes our elders have made and learn to resolve our differences instead of slinging mud on one another. Thanks for reading.......
I am sorry to see that the money from the casinos is not helping the people that need it the most. Not knowing any of the specifics, I was certain this revenue would be making life much better for the poorest folks. If this is not the case, and lessening poverty in the reservations from these revenues is not the top priority, then something is not right. I hope that the quality of life improves from the bottom up. If that does not happen soon, then the whole system needs to be re-examined and the money needs to be redistributed to the most needy. Where is the money actually going? Outsiders should only be in advisory roles to help the folks get this revenue into modernization throughout all impoverished areas.
I hope my naivety does not draw ire.

Indian tribes didn't "own" any lands. They occupied and controlled some areas. Even if it meant killing those of other tribes to do so. Look up the Gallina people. Just one of many genocides committed by the "natives".
Many tribes were more than eager to ally themselves with Europeans if they thought it would help defeat or protect them from rival tribes.
Your average Boy Scout probably has better survival skills than your native americans. Has been a very long time since they have lived off the land.
Me thinks casper is some white chickie with an identity crisis.
Funny, you should mention the Galina people of northwestern New Mexico. It seems the empirical evidence on whether or not there was genocide is out but you in that magnificent time machine of yours, knows all.

You just sound like another tired racist.

You have undeniable traits of being one yourself. Indians are a much more noble and superior race of mankind? They didn't kill each other or do the other things you accuse the "white man" of doing?

You are a racist or very, very naive.

the real irony in all this is that that bum Columbus did not really discover anything that undiscovered. Chris landed in a place that had a population as big and as diverse as the place he left. What is really a shame is the way the interlopers treated the established population. Thanks to unbridled settlement millions of people died, and hundreds of cultures and langyuages have been lost forever.

Your comment just proves my point.
You are writing your comment on a computer, communicating via the internet, all developed by the successful, and current culture.
In the future, there may be changes in the way people live, but do you think that it will be identical to the 18th century?
The wars which you are referring to aren't a clash of cultures, so much as an ongoing event between ideologies and metaphysical views of the world. And that clash has been going on for 1,500 years. Dubai is constructing skyscrapers, and stock exchanges; and to a certain extent the West is adding mosques. Both cultures have adapted, and weren't that different in their origins.
In the case of the Soviet Union, and its proxy state of Vietnam, the US was able to prevail; but it was via a superior economic system not direct warfare. Reagan simply outspent the socialists and pushed them over the edge.
If anything, with a more connected world, we'll continue to see intermarriage and changes in the status of peoples, and cultures.
But the Native Americans were living in either stone age, or simple agrarian societies; and never had a chance against the overwhelming might of immigrant peoples from Europe.
Technology, not religion, made the difference. Just as the horse provided Native raiders with an advantage over the tribes without horses. But the natives couldn't make a rifle, they didn't have the steel making knowledge. And thus tribes that didn't adapt couldn't survive in the modern world. Whereas steel has been present in the Mideast and the Far East for 1,000 years; it isn't much of a change from making Damascus steel or Japanese samurai swords into guns, or battleships.
So get educated, and reproduce; that is the lesson for today.
Well duh, this is where the blog is fool... n to comment back I have to use a computer... Great observation bro... mayb next time you can show me how to use a fork and spoon to eat my food... getting really tired of using my hands... superior economic system??? You mean the one we have right now that almost crashed??? Or giving money to the rich so they can still own their bzness and the others who are not well connected lose theirs… Give me a break, it’s always bout having the most money and such, but who is actually doing all the work??? the ones who are getting screwed all the time, and who gets all the so-called glory... yup, people like you... so fool, before you say ne thing else... close that socialist book of yours and see what’s really happening out there in today's society... wow, we are really the front runners in denial... but I guess that is what you have been taught wen growing up...

Don't know how to tell you this, but my ancestors lived off the land, on the sea, and learned how to take what they needed from who and wherever they landed. They sometimes would even take the women. And that was amongst Iron Age peoples. I myself have lived on very little for months. Must be in the genes.

I hope you are a chickie with skills my type would appreciate or have a use for. Otherwise you are useless.

We'll put our woes, er... WAHOO's on you when you stop treating us (or any other qualifying minority) like lower-class citizens. Instead of giving us bad service because you assume all Natives are bad tippers, try just doing your job.

By the way, can you get me some more ketchup?
