Charlie Chaplin voluntarily left the U.S. to avoid being deported and prosecuted for harboring under-age girls (junior high level)in his home. After he left, he was excludable and could never get another visa. They didnt have sex predator laws back then, but if they had, he'd have been near the top of the list. The INS didn't take action until he had filled a filing cabinet with reports of sexual misconduct.

Whether or not he was "funny" is a philosophically relative issue. It depends on what the definition of "is" is, as one famous sex predator once said.
