This is why the oscars are irrelevant. One-dimensional performance in a bloated dead whale of a movie.

Who didn't see this comin a mile away... he did a fine job as Joker, but it's a part you'd have to die for to get an Oscar. Hollywood considers themselves snobby to acknowledge blockbusters.

I'm glad Ledger won, he deserved it.
Slumdog what????
Another movie that won best picture that no one has seen.
Sorry but The Dark Knight or Wall E should have won.
Why do they always reward the movies that no one cares about?

Short term satisfaction for the PC police re best actor, best film etc. I suspect the left will be happy that they felt they were able to guilt the the rest of us with Penn's acceptance speech...and hopefully those who feel guilty will now leave the rest of us alone.

And my prayers also goes to those celebrities who passed away in 2008 including Heath Ledger who won a posthumos award as the Best Supporting Actor. May they rest in peace...

THe inhabitants in Mumbai are demonstrating about the film "Slumdog Millionaire" because they feel insulted of the title and the movie itself. Why it must be shown to the world the poverty living in slums like a dog.

Congratulations to you Penelope Cruz for winning the Best Supporting Actress! I have not seen your role in "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" but I have seen the clip with you and Scarlet Johansson. That must be a hard role to play. In any case, you delivered one of the most moving speeches and I was impressed by your thoughts of unity and art as a universal language. Bravo and keep the good work!!!

Did I hear correctly?
Was this movie originally supposed to be "direct to video"???
And now all of the sudden it's movie of the year.
And instead of making a "movie" about peoples suffering, try helping instead.
With the billions at Hollywoods disposal, try helping the people in India, or better yet, THE PEOPLE IN THE US!!!

According to reports the children in that movie were not paid well for their roles and cameo roles but in a poor country like that, it's better than nothing and they could have a chance to be a movie star...

Hey Kissy how are you? When are we going to see a good Swiss movie? Haven't seen one since the Sound of Music. lol, that was too long ago.
I think Penelope is a very good actress and was happy for her to get her award. Kate Winslet is very, very talented and has deserved more awards than she's ever got. I felt sorry for Angelina because she's a good actress too. I love Meryl and would give her and award for burping, lol.
These STARS have been around for a while now and that's why they were the top nominees.
Sophia looked good, what's with the hand-on-hip pose? It looked bossy, but maybe her dress was coming undone or something and she had to hold it.
Which dress did you like the best, I didn't hear of a Stella McCartney frock. Do you know?

Ok, so if fast food resturants in the US are paying illegal immigrants below minimum wage, then that's ok?
It's more than what they'd make back home after all?
Right?
Wrong.
A chance to be a movie star???
Are you joking?
They exploited them for a quick buck, made millions off the movie and paid their "victims" next to nothing.
But then Hollywood preaches their own version of morality to US???
Their just as bad and the fundies if not worse.
Movie star???
Ok, I'm going to try out for the next reality tv show, maybe that will make me a star.
Dream on!

Hello "Aunt Melba"! How's life in Melbourne nowadays? I heard that there's another fire nearby and somewhere there were two persons were injured by the shark.

There are a few national Swiss movies once in a while to look for and also German movies worth looking for.

Definitely they are all good and they all wore beautiful designers clothes. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and "not all that glitters is gold."

It's always nice to see the Oscar Night- the highest award of the movie industry. This year, I find it one of the best because of the host of the "Sexiest Man Alive" Hugh Jackman. Have you seen how the applauses, admiration especially among ladies who were thrilled about him? As for me, I can't help myself swooning over him. No wonder why he was chosen for that title this year.

I hope everything's well with you and your family. God bless!!!

Thanks Kissy, we still have fire threats but the firefighters have them under control at this time.
It's difficult to enjoy entertainment with the thoughts of what the fire victims are going through. I watched it for Heath Ledger and for Hugh as presenter. Got to support our own boys.
I love the fashions and all the 'glitter' is just a bit of fantasy away from our normal days. One thing I missed though, was how they used to show a good portion of each nominated role, you know so those who haven't seen the movies can get a glimpse of it. There were a couple of movies I hadn't heard of until Oscar night.
Have a good day. God bless you and yours.

Peace to you "Briguymn"! You know, "there's no show like showbusiness." One of the best ways-- "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire"???
