Letters: Time to move past race

Mark Weller is wrong. Steve Koppany is right. I don't consider the Vandeveres "local heroes" at all. ANY of our veterans, who actually did something to defend our country and our freedom, are more "local heroes" than the Vandeveres. As far as a letter being beneath the Herald's letters page standards, be serious. Look at the garbage people like Steve Brady and Bob Fett have printed regularly.

Peter T. Kirwan apparently loves blood. America is going to fight the Taliban while attempting to secure the citizenry. That's not a lot of detail to go on, but Kirwan thinks our press, the cabinets of all recent presidents and talking heads on all sides should be executed. What an American.

It is hard to have sympathy for the cowardly and morally challenged residents of Carmel-by-the-Sea when the higher ups in the Carmel Residents Association, a group Jim Emery is a member of, have known about City Halls poisonous environment for years and years and continued to maintain their cozy relationship with Carmel Mayor Sue McCloud. Look in the mirror. People who knew before Jane Millers public lawsuit and did nothing have empowered Sue McCloud and her crony council members to circle the wagons and believe they can ignore, deny and ultimately get away with it now and in the future.

Did it ever occur to you, Observer, that while our soldiers are sometimes called upon to defend our freedoms from external enemies, most of the threats to our freedoms are internal? Activists, organizers and protesters play a crucial role in preserving our freedoms every day. If it were not for the tireless efforts of generations of activists, organizers and protesters, our Constitution would not be worth the paper it is written on and the enormous sacrifices of our veterans would be meaningless.

Looks like you never served. Sadly, the tree of liberty must be watered by the blood of patriots.

Mahern slanders Strom Thurmond by calling him "an admitted segregationist". That was true during the 60's but since then, he has been one of our best congressmen.
Why did the Herald publish that libelous letter?
