All the "hearts and flowers" in the world still won't pay our taxes, feed our families, employ our residents or increase our tax base one iota. Unemployment is up again while tourist visitation is down again. Until you "purists" come up with a viable alternative, the casino is still the best bet this county has. Your beautiful and touching commentary is nothing more than beautiful photograph of a steak dinner being shown to a homeless and hungry family!

If casinos are the best answer to this country's ills we're beyond help. A casino is an adult toy; nothing more, nothing less. Looking at it as a savior will only cause more heartache.

Well Dan I can present seven of neighbors that support the casino. Dan these people actually live here. You and Susan Star Paddock will never publicly admit this but you certainly hope that others think that the opinions of those you cite with some type of fame or notoriety somehow carry more weight than that of my neighbors. You and Paddock insult me, my neighbors, and all who reside locally by such tactics. You and Paddock are lacking in integrity.

Thanks Dan. Great letter.
A casino is the real 'picture of a steak", nothing but illusion.
The film is well worth watching. http://www.civilwar.org/video/our-gettysburg-...
At the hearings only 35 people actually testified FOR the casino and 109 testified against. Mason Dixon asked the board if they could consolidate speakers, then corralled people to say they agreed with the speakers, so that 35 was multiplied in the record, and many of their speeches had the same sentence structure and seemed to be written by the same person. Every opposition speech was different, because no one was writing anyone's speech. You can see ALL the talks on the PGCB website.
bottom line: More of Adams County ACTUALLY STOOD UP AND SPOKE UP AGAINST THE CASINO TO THE PGCB.
Adams Countians are getting tired of the intimidation tactics of the casino-mongers. We are freeing ourselves and lots more are just saying no to the deception.

I personally
do not live in Gettysburg and I am FRIENDS with both people you mention
here and also friends with one of the actors mentioned... I also have
seven neighbors... doesn't matter whether they are for or against the casino.
I would take the integrity of my friends no matter where they live
over some of my neighbors who are who they are.. just neighbors! I would be proud
to call both of these local people my neighbor.. but wait a minute.. that's right
you don't want any outsiders there... so I will just be lucky to call them my
friends

I used to believe this was USA and a Free Country. But according to all these NoCasino people they are the only ones free to do as they want everybody else must do as they say.
Why isn't the ACLU protecting these people's rights.

This is a great letter and one to attest to the great
content of the video and to the language used in this
letter.... quotes from Joshua L. Chamberlain... while
stating this all those years ago.. I am sure that
Chamberlain was not visioning a casino or any type
of establiment of the sort. I am sure he knew things
would change, but also knew that future generations would
take care of this legacy left to us. It is definitely
now our job to protect it.

It makes me sad to think one believces that if a Casino is opened it will have any bearing on the Battle that happened there. I believe this is a morals issue. One way or the other. Myself I place no marrit on the fact a movie producer had actors make a vidio. These are paid professionals.

Makes Me Sad - Did you read the letter? Everyone connected to this video donated their time out of their respect for the Gettysburg Battlefield and what happened here. How hard is that to understand. Besides, the pro-casino supporters say if you are not local, butt out.Go join Tex at the rodeo.

Also Tony how does posting from Philly make you local. I have a Gettysburg address on my drivers licence. Its not as long as Lincolns Adress buts its still a Gettysburg adress. Does this somehow make what I have to say any more important? I have lived in Gettysburg longer and I'm sure I've spent far more time on the Battlefield than most people reading these comments.
For the record I am neither for or agianst the Casino. It just makes me sad. I have that right. I was involved with the making of Gettysburg the Movie in a remote way. When they made the movie, the movie people had total disreguard for these hollowed grounds they are so eager to speek out about. It was what ever it takes to get the shoot. They had no problem moving equimpment where ever they need it. Covered buildings with nets. although they did try to restore things as best they could.
Again the point is the Casino is not going to change anything about the Battkefield. Or what happened here many years ago.
IMO the veiws of NO Casino are those of personal choice. And have nothing to do with the Battlefield itself.

believe - I said the pro's don't want outside opinions. The no-casino supporters welcome outside opinions because we know that this is a national issue.

tony, you tout the value of outside opinion in the attempt to diminish the fact that the majority of locals support the casino. In reality, the determination of whether the license will be granted to Mason-Dixon will be based on LOCAL opinion (both pro and no) and the fact that the Mason-Dixon proposal will be the most profitable one for the remaining class III license. In my opinion a convincing case was made at the public hearing for Mason Dixon in both areas. The PGCB will, of course, make that final determination.

I'm a local, and I say NO CASINO GETTYSBURG!
I find it ironic that we have locals complaining that it is a 'local issue' while at the same time saying we need more tourists. Shouldn't we be listening to the tourists who already come here? Their money is spent in our local businesses when they visit and yet according to the 'Pro' locals (who seem to believe they are the only locals) their voices don't count??!! Do you see the problem with this logic?

Welcome to the discussion. The point was made that we need more here to draw tourist to town. In case you have not noticed, tourism has been on a steady decline in recent years.

Good points Tony. If it's a "local" issue, why did pro-casino people go all the way to Vicksburg to have people try to speak for their case? By the way, I have been to Vicksburg. The casino there are leaches on the historical integrity and industry of the town. Don't let that happen to Gettysburg!

Vicksburg can be compared to Gettysburg in that casinos were built (5 to be exact) in an historical town. In reality the casinos in Vicksburg have been a benefit to the community and tourism has increased as well. Now think about this for a minute. If, as you say casinos were detrimental to the place you live and work, do you really think they would give a thumbs up to another city asking about a casino benefiting their town?
