What Hitchens got wrong: Abolishing religion won't fix anything

There are 14 comments on the Salon story from Dec 7, 2013, titled What Hitchens got wrong: Abolishing religion won't fix anything. In it, Salon reports that:

Religion has once again become the "opiate of the people." But this time, instead of seducing the proletariat into accepting its position in a capitalist society, it lulls atheists into believing that abolishing religion would bring about utopia.

You atheists sure don't watch TV, all you say is what you want to happen but won't happen.

If you truly want to know who would advocate the abolishment of any religion, just look to your rival religions.

Christainity itself, has been hell bent on abolishing all other religions since it's inception. We atheist, could care less whether you have a religion. What we are concerned about is the laws that would force to us obey the Abrahamic religions dogmatic bullshit. And we would prefer that no child be indoctrinated, even yours. Taking away the child's option to choose, before the child has came of age is just plain child abuse, and the child is not your property, the child is not yours to indoctrinate.

..... It is quite normal hat businesses see their competitors as enemies to be absorbed or destroyed. The various belief systems with their supporting literature have succeeded to collect a lot of money for very many years and they do not want their customers to spend their money somewhere else.

Time is meaningless in these forums, it is only your comments which are to be weighed as pertinent to the discussion or barring that, may at least worthy of some considered.

I like to see these faith based businesses pay the same taxes as the rest of the entertainment industry must .

Hitchens was amusing at times.
Atheists in America may be able to get tax breaks as a religion according to the D O J?

why does your imaginary arab friend in the sky, teach you to rape (Deuteronomy 22:23-24 NAB)

If within the city a man comes upon a maiden who is betrothed, and has relations with her, you shall bring them both out of the gate of the city and there stone them to death: the girl because she did not cry out for help though she was in the city, and the man because he violated his neighbors wife.

It is clear that God doesn't give a damn about the rape victim. He is only concerned about the violation of another mans "property".

(Deuteronomy 22:28-29 NLT)

If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father. Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her.

What kind of lunatic would make a rape victim marry her attacker? Answer: God.
