11 The writer also omits one important element in Gran Torino, that getting to know someone up close can defeat bigotry. If not for this thematic point, Eastwood's character might have been judged one of the most obnoxious in screen history. If Eastwood's politics played a part in his being ignored at Oscar time, that would be unfortunate. But the Academy knew his politics when he won for best director, so I question the theory. |

8 There has been a large amount of evidence that politics play a large part in Hollywood regarding a person's success.

5 "The piece suggests that the fact that Eastwood has never won a best actor Oscar was because of a plot against him." It makes your fellow liberals look shallow and hateful, doesn't it? Gotta tell ya, most of them are! And, just because YOU don't buy into the article, Larry, doesn't make it untrue ... I'm sure you believe Tina Fey won the entertainer of the year award on talent, too, huh? |

6 Great actor and producer. Intelligent people make great actors...People like Tina Fey imitate and degrade the profession. The idiots and bubbleheaded broads that are slobbering all over the new PRES aren't going to be so thrilled when they can't get a job because the new adminstration has made our republic socialist. Who is going to support their efforts then? No one is going to be loaning money to make movies when the government is bailing out and creating bigger govt. Hollywood get ready for the soup lines...you are on your way. |

2 It's not politics to give it to a dead guy who played a cartoon character? The oscar's are irrelevant anyway. Keep the statue, just give me the success Eastwood has had over the past 40-50 years. Few if any can equal it. |

1 Yet, here you are! But, I must agree, the whole awards thing is a waste and I don't give a damn about who gets them. I'll judge for myself which one's I like. |

2 Baloney, 65. Clint Eastwood has never directed a picture he didn't want to make. If you read "liberal philosophies" into any of them, maybe it's because you and Eastwood have differing points of view on some issues. I want to make it clear that I admire Clint Eastwood's accomplishments, and I consider him one of the best American film directors. If Gran Torino were chosen among the Oscar nominees for best picture, I would have considered it well deserved. My point is that Eastwood is broadly admired in the movie industry, and there is no widespread plot against him. |

2 No, but I'd nominate you for the clueless poster of the year award. The problem with Tina Fey is that Sarah Palin is much funnier. |
