Patrick Swayze is fighting for his life, having 4th stage pancreatic cancer; and he still continues to smoke mega cigarettes daily.

Being a smoker myself and not in good health, I say Let him do what he wants. Why stop now? From what I've heard, he's terminal so let him enjoy his life as much as he can. In whatever way he wants.
Unfortunately, Patrick Swayze has never been recognized as the important actor that he is.
Dirty Dancing still makes me want to get up and dance and he was so sexy.

She is right in that he is subjecting his wife to second hand smoke. But there is no reason for him to quit as it won't save his life now. He knows he is doomed and see's no reason to quit and I agree with him on that. But it's not a smoker disease but smoking does contribute to it. Non believers are only fooling themselves. I hope patrick is not in any pain.

I'm an ex-smoker myself, and my mother (a smoker) recently died from pancreatic cancer. Smoking is not the cause of pancreatic cancer, in fact, no one knows what is.
I quit smoking, not because of my mothers illness or death, but because it started bothering me. What others do is their business. Patrick and his wife are intelligent adults and if they wanted to change their situation I'm sure they would.
Let other people live the lives they want and focus on what constitutes your own happiness.

Smoking HAS been legally found to cause a number of diseases including pancreatic cancer. Google Engle Trust Fund or Engle vs. R. J. Reynolds. There are approx 23 diseases on the list and not all are cancer or even respiratory related.

I'm a smoker and if I had a terminal illness I would still be smoking. There would be no reason to quit, enjoy your life as much as you can especially with the stress involved with the illness. Smoking does not cause pancreatic cancer they aren't sure what does so anyone could get it. Why don't the busybodies concentrate on their own lives.

Like with any exposure to any chemical or disease process, each body fights the reaction to it. Some can over come it others cannot. This is why some will get chicken pox while others with the exact same terms of exposure will not. Non-smokers that contract these diseases have had exposure but at smaller rates and seem to be more susceptible to the disease process. Yes, second hand smoke seems to play a part in it but just how much is unknown. Beyond that, many diseases have multiple causative actions but the same result.

Genetics play a prominent role, in my opinion. You brought up an interesting note about chicken pox. When I was a child my brother and sister contracted it and my Mom put me with them so that I would get it and be done with it. I never contracted them.

The valid point here is that people are different and some can withstand a lot of exposure and not be affected while others seem to be susceptible to many diseases and medical conditions.

SHS can not be the targeted trigger when other triggers exist and people are prone to disease and medical problems.

You're right. There's no proof. But statistically, there's a lot of evidence that shows his habit put him at high risk for the disease.

Again, statistics can only show risk in a population. It says zero about whether any given individual will get a disease.

So, you have a good chance of living to 95, with all your mental facultities as intact as any other 95-year-old guy.

I, on the other hand, have an even better chance than you do, first of all because I'm a woman.
