If there's no one sitting next to you, I don't see the problem.

On the other hand, I was once on a flight to the east coast and seated between two very wide men. One couldn't put down the arm rest and his leg was squeezing mine. How is that fair?

If the seats are "average" or "standard" and if someone is obese and cannot ft within the space allotted, then he/she should purchase two tickets and be comfortable and not put his/her flesh on the surrounding passengers(s).

How would you like to be a passenger sitting next to him, you being squeezed in your seat during the duration of the flight (because his obesity overlaps in to your seat)!!!????

If he fit the standards, that is one thing, but as a very frequent traveler who has had to sit next to people who overflow their seats to crowd me and are arrogant as well, I'm for Southwest!

dude.....next time, take a train, or some other kind of transportation that will accomidate your weight and size.... or better yet, try walking.....
the pilot was only concerned about the weight balance so they can fly straight and not go in circles..

I was going Vegas and the guy siting next to me was about 400 pounds and sweaty and he asked me if I had something to eat in my carrie on that he could buy. I gave him my nuts. Isn't that a nice story. So if your on a flight with a fat person and there hungry give them your nuts.

Kevin already bought Two tickets because he is - as acknowledged Fat
There remained one seat
1 does not equal 2
I t might be fine that he can pour himself into a single seat but it better not be the seat next to me -

Dems the rules
Follow the rules Kevin and wait in line or lose 100 LBS

I'm a big guy but thankfully not at the point where I can't fit properly in an airplane seat.

If he normally buys two seats why did he think he was going to fit in a single seat in this case?

Also he should just fly first class. I know Southwest has "low fares" but I'd think that one first class ticket couldn't be much more expensive than 2 tickets, plus he'd then be flying on an airline that doesn't treat their passengers like cattle.

If you are overweight, that is your problem. But infringing on my space that I paid for is another matter. If a patron does not fit in their space they are required to pay for two seats. With his money he should fly first class. He should be more mindful of his health and loose weight.

I believe the issue is that he was flying standby and there was only ONE seat available, therefore there would be a problem. So my question of Kevin Smith is, which passenger on this almost full flight did he think deserved to be squeezed out of the seat they paid for? Perhaps a Jenny Craig appointment would be in order, not only could he avoid the flight cancellation but his health would benefit as well. Of course it is always easier to blame Southwest instead of his eating habits.

I'm a big guy too. Not fat, just big. If this guy normally buys 2 seats because he's too damn fat to fit in one, what made him think he could fit in just one seat? Because he was flying standby? Bravo for Southwest. I am sick of fat people smelling up the row and crowding other passengers. Lose weight (you'll live longer) or take another form of transportation.

FWIW: With his money, I'd skip Southwest (even though I like Southwest) and fly an airline with a 1st class section. Problem solved...

If you knew you had to buy 2 seats to fit comfortably, you shouldn't be subjecting other passengers around you by insisting on taking the earlier standby. Next time be less selfish and think about others before you demand your "rights"...
