HIGHLIGHT IN MAY 17 AUCTION

In a two-session auction of Art, Press & Illustrated Books followed by more than 300 lots of 19th & 20th Century Literature on May 17, Swann Galleries will offer several of Truman Capote’s infamous writings.

Some rare works include A Tree of Night, first edition, signed and inscribed to his friend and editor George Davis at the time of publication, New York, 1949 ($2,000 to $3,000), and A Christmas Memory, signed by Capote, and also the copy read by Joanne Carson at Capote’s funeral, New York, 1966 ($400 to $600).

Also important, a signed, first edition of In Cold Blood, 1965 ($500 to $750) and a first edition group of 6 signed volumes (various)($400 -$600).

The two-session auction of Art, Press & Illustrated Books followed by more than 300 lots of 19th & 20th Century Literature will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 17; and continue, after a lunch break, at 2:30 p.m.

The books will be on public exhibition on Saturday, May 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Monday, May 14 to Wednesday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
