Wow. Good to know that the Superintendent can get worked up over this. He was quoted as being "steamed" over this picture.

Not steamed over thousands of district teachers standing in unemployment lines.

Not steamed over the cancellation of Summer School forcing hundreds of thousands of kids out onto the streets this Summer.

Not steamed over classes that will be bursting at the seams this fall.

But steamed over a picture advertising a movie.

Wow.

I'm so glad that the Board fired Brewer and hired Cortines. I feel so much better knowing he's at the helm.

You mean Pep Pep Cortines is actually going to do something? And what does Jabba the Garcia have to say about this? Can she take a step back from the buffet line to let us know what she thinks and plans to do about this??? And who gives a flying leap about consent forms. This "event" should have never been allowed on a LAUSD campus with students.

Children need to be taught by adults who have wisdom and common sense. Hopefully, Coates and Prizant will be history.

If I was Cortines, I would only be "steamed" if the school was not compensated by the movie company and GQ magazine for the photo shoot. I would ask to see the money, rather than student consent forms.

ok, I am looking at the photo, and I don't get it anway. Furthermore, I don't recognzi not one person. So what is the beef? Did these athletes get paid, and why was it necessary to take take photo with a High School football team. Oh, interest in the movie, maybe...Marketing on the back of a failing School District.

West Valley Dave Smith, why do you hate hispanics? every post of yours involving a hispanic surname unleashes venom from you. Do you belong to the Aryan Nation, the NAZI party or the KKK?

I don't have problems with hispanics. I do have a problem with illegal aliens and government officials who enable illegals, from any country. I actually have several hispanic friends. And there are several hispanics who post on this site who I agree with. Even Joe Blue and I agree on certain issues... not all but some of them. I hope that answers your question.

Have a great evening.

Also, those who deserve praise will get praise. Those who don't get nicknames and negative comments.

All the particulars in the this story prove once again what a bunch of braindead idiots everyone running LAUSD are. And what kind of isolation unit is the principal of Birmingham living in to say she never heard of Cohen nor is she familiar with his work? WOW! LAUSD is in even bigger trouble than anyone thought!

You're a USC grad?

Cortines has way more important things to deal with than this non-issue.

He should leave the hollow theatrics to AJ Duffy.

The Cynic: You're wrong on both phrases. Cortines is one person and it was one school so USC Marshall Alum was correct.

Why are we so petty in correcting grammar in our comments? Nothing else to talk about?

I am questioning that myself. I have noticed that all of a sudden there are "millions" of usc alumni cruising around So-Cal, I don't know if the surge in the student body just happened to coincide with the success of the football team, or if perhaps these people are pretending to be something they are not. Are there really that many recent graduates?

Why is this a big deal? I'm sure the kids, if they really are Birmingham students, thought this was the coolest thing in the world.
Cortines is just using this to divert everyone's attention from the real tasks at hand.
Kids today are sissys. They need a parent's approval for a photo shoot?
I was at a graduation 2 weeks ago and and over 200 kids got awards. Some for just being part of a club or project. We now award everything, next year breathing students will be award recipients, and nanny kids too much.

What are you talking about? Cortines is responsible for what takes place in L.A. Unified School District. If I recall, the school is an institution of learning and not a business. In this aspect I agree with West Valley Dave. This event should have never been allowed on a LAUSD campus with students. We pay these people to do a job, and that is to teach. If this is the quality of professional that is being hired by LAUSD, it is no wonder they are paid so little.

He needs to fire the principal and the athletic director. This is not the standard to be setting for education. Whether parent consent was involved is irrelevant. I doubt the parents knew this is what would be involved.
