I don't understand how this is going to fall out - I don't believe the smokers or their survivors should get anything other than a minimal $100 compensation. I smoked up until 2 years ago - I am pissed that I ever started - I am mad that I didn't quit sooner, but those were my decisions. Everything can be seen as an addiction. I am fat, is it because I am addicted to something they put in food? No, it's because I don't exercise enough and I eat too much of the bad stuff. I like the bad stuff - so am I addicted? I would start smoking again in a heartbeat if I didn't believe it would make my life worse. I enjoyed smoking... I miss it. Am I suing anyone because I made bad decisions? These people send me over the edge - they need to put their grown up panties on and deal with the results of their decisions. Or will everything always be the fault of someone else?

A guy whose job it was to convince people that "Winston Tastes Good Like a Cigarette Should" is hardly my idea of a sympathetic tobacco plaintiff. Coupled with an armed robbery in his past, it seems apparent to me that the guy made a series of bad decisions.

Finally there was no "Winston Man". There was a "Marlboro Man", a rugged cowboy who wasn't going to let pointy-headed scientists ruin the joy of a smoke out on the trail after the doggies retire in the evening. Two of those Marlboro Men, Wayne McLaren and David McLean in fact became crusaders against tobacco prior to their deaths from lung cancer and at least one of them sued Philip Morris.

The question the Winston Man ought to ask himself is how many people did he help lead to an early grave by portraying smoking as a sophisticated "lifestyle choice".

I am sorry he is sick, but I have trouble seeing him as a victim.

I hope the tabaco companies win. You have to be an idiot to smoke and not think it's going to kill you one day.

its a great strategy, he makes money twice, whats the problem with that..its kind of like buying stock, selling at a profit then do it all over again if the stock price drops

Because alcohol compaines never tried to fool people into thinking it wasn't bad for you.
Alcohol compaines always said, "hey this stuff is bad for you don't use it", people still bought it.
Tabaco compaines went a different route from the booze compaines when they realzied it was was bad they tried to hide the facts.
They should have just did what the hooch people did and say, "look this stuff is not good for you", "enjoy in moderation" doesn't matter people would still buy it.

When you pick up a gun and use it by threat of lethal force to take something from someone that doesn't belong to you, it is all about you. Likewise when you take a lot of money to look healthy and happy while you inhale cigarettes even though you know the things are going to kill some of the people who try to look like the healthy happy guy you portray, it's all about you as well.

Maybe this guy has had an awakening, but I still hear echoes of "it's all about me" in everything he says.

Thirty four years in the courtroom have taught me that once the jury gets over the irony of a former pitchman suing Big Tobacco they are going to take a hard look at his choices. He may win something simply because Big Tobacco is not particularly sympathetic either. However he will not die a rich man. Juries don't give lots of money to narcissists.

Because cigarette companies for years denied that they were bad for you. Beer and booze companies have never promoted drinking as healthy. In fact, their ads tell you NOT to drink.

Daily Horoscope for January 7

Aquarius

Avoid making promises today, or even believing in other people's promises. Today is not a good day to make commitments, as they are not likely to materialise. Taking risks is a no-no. Try to relax until the numbers are in your favour. Those pursuing their career will benefit.
