Carmen Jones was a wonderful film. It did introduce Dorothy Dandridge in a different way, one that gave her much dignity and respect in the film industry. Michael St. John who was known as "Sandy Lewis" as a teenager in the theater played the character of T-Bone. He was wonderful with an obvious place in the future of the business. Diane Carroll also began her climb to stardom -- she turned out to be a real winner.

I remember seeing Michael St. John in "Member of the Wedding" with the late star Ethel Waters. The Broadway road show was playing at the "Pasadena Playhouse" and it was something that I will never forget. Miss Waters and St. John got into a fight on stage that turned out to be the funniest scene I've ever seen on the stage. Since I had seen the original play on Broadway, I knew each scene very well and when the actress threw a chair at St. John and he threw it back, it shocked the audience. Not only that St. John was suppose to kiss Ms. Waters on the neck at one of his exists and instead pinched her ass and ran from the stage, the audience went mad with laughter and applause. St. John is still full of surprises and that's what the theater is all about. I hope we will be able to see the likes of him again. We need his kind of guts. Especialy now!
