A friend of mine recently sent me an article about sex addiction and asked for my comment. I did not regard myself as an expert in this field, either accademically or experientially. The article seemed well written and I told him so. The following prose-poem, it seems to me, offers readers something about my experience of sex, albeit compared to writing poetry, that may be useful.
This organization of formed words, this noble energy, which comes to rest in this apparently natural, but partly artificial and mysterious place, which attempts to know the meaning of humankind and the world with clarity, form and beauty and with choice, uses the most succinct, memorable and affective speech---the poem. The engine of this process is the imagination and it tends toward greatness when it is inspired by a systematic vision of civilization, global civilization, what Jung called the big vision. Strangely, we know the real poem when we touch it. But, like sexual intercourse, explaining and doing it are only remotely connected. The poet writes poetry for the experience, the reality, the joy.-Ron Price with appreciation to Dave Smith, Local Assays: On Contemporary American Poetry, University of Illinois Press, 1985, chapter one.
There’s not the tactility,
hunger not as pitched,
taken up and up,
always more to touch,
to excite, but the feelings
play with the brain,
the brain massages,
moves out, over, over
and up into unpredictable spaces,
places, surprise by joy,
don’t know what’s coming,
feels like it was done by someone else
when you look at it and you can look at it,
can leave something behind
beside some wet excrescence
and rumpled sheets.
There’s a fullness, a detumesence,
a relaxed ease, a feeling of coming close,
of arriving, if only for a minute, a second,
at a place of satisfaction, at a real point-like touch.

And here is a 2nd piece with sex part of the theme.
MORE THAN SEX GOING ON HERE
Sexual intercourse began
Between the end of the Chatterly ban
And the Beatles' first LP.
-Philip Larkin, Annus Mirabilis, quoted in Margaret Drabble: A Reader's Guide.
Sexual activity began
Between the beginning of my pioneering
And the complete institutionalization
Of charisma in the conveyance
Of authority in an emerging world religion.
-Ron Price, Untitled Poem, written only here to convey a perspective.
The year I became a Baha'i
Lady Chatterly's Lover1 went
on trial, four-letter words
became okay, sex was opened
to public discussion endlessly,
the unsayable became sayable
and pornography began to
travel in rivers to the sea of
our lives. The permissive
society was well on its way,
Betty Friedan published her
Feminine Mystique and the
tenth stage of history made
its entrance2 in the greatest
drama in the world's spiritual
history---as I tasted my first
experience of depression,3
hungered for sex and was
initiated into the mysteries
and secrets of pioneering.4

1 The first year of my experience as a Baha'i was October 1959 to October 1960.
2 The tenth stage of history is part of a Baha'i paradigm of history. It began in 1963.
3 This outline of the early 1960s is found in many places. I drew on Margaret Drabble: A Reader's Guide, Valerie Myer, Vision Press, NY, 1991, pp.13-14.
4 this poem is another example of the vahid(Farsi word for unity), a poem of 19 lines.

Yes, thank the Gods we left all that anti-sex crap behind!

Just to widen the focus and give it a somewhat celebrity oriented orientation, I submit the following prose-poem at this topix.net site:
A CORUSCANT ENERGY
Once ranked number six on Playboy’s 100 sexiest women of the twentieth century and also named the most beautiful woman in the world, Sophia Loren has been acting in movies all my Baha’i life. In the year my mother first had contact with the Baha’i Faith, 1953/4, Loren acted in four films. She had just started her acting career in the early fifties. I was only nine at the time and baseball meant more to me than pretty ladies.
In the year I joined this Faith, 1959/60, Loren acted in six films; in the year my pioneering life began, 1962/3, she acted in another six. One of these latter films(1962) was Boccaccio where she stared with Anita Eckberg. She won the first Oscar for a foreign language film in 1961. Some regard Loren as the most celebrated actress of the last fifty years(1953-2003). This month Loren turned 70. Both she and I are getting old and pretty ladies replaced baseball on my personal agenda.
-Ron Price with thanks to “The Official Sophia Loren Website,” September, 2004.
Note: With appreciation to Roger White for this title from “Death of the Greengrocer,” Whitewash, Haifa, 1982, p.22.
This icon of the cinema
during my pioneering life,
this woman of grace, elegance,
beauty and charm, unpretentious,
as sexy, as seductive, as they get,
she came out of the woodwork
and blazed across the screen
and blew me away, yet again,
one of thousands of beauties
that played in the background
of my life, all my life really,
right from my first memories
when I was only three or four,
before breasts bud, before groins
fill out, jostle and strain
toward imperative destinations.
And they still blaze and dance,
still jostle and strain keeping
the concupiscible appetite on heat,
always wanting more than I can get
or should get or would get or could get.
What’s the big idea anyway?
Is it some kind of cosmic joke:
sticking this incredible pulchritude
in front of my nose and saying:
you are only supposed to look.
Don’t touch; it’s only for show!
It’s to reproduce the species;
that’s why there’s such awesome
force here. I’ll give you a taste,
but don’t ask for more than your lot,
your share of this coruscant energy
that pops and glitters, spurts and tangles
to achieve life’s unthwarted, fecund purpose.

That's all folks!

#21 Mar 27, 2006
Speaking of who-whos and ding-dings, I'll post yet another piece in relation to this very all-encompasing theme. I trust these posts will not be seen as part of some sex-perversion, addiction, obsession, problem, difficulty....et cetera.....
TO DENNIS POTTER
At the end of the day, I remain, somehow or other, against all odds a Christian. It’s what I actually in the end believe in, even though intellectually I am appalled by the very baldness of such a statement. I know that at the root somewhere, somehow, that is what I turn to and respond to. That is what tortures and torments me. And whatever travails, mental or physical or social or sexual or whatever, that I go through, I end up somehow or other getting my life into order. And in getting my life into order my work improves.-Dennis Potter in Dennis Potter: A Life On Screen, Manchester UP, NY, 1995, p.292.
I am, first and foremost, a Baha’i. In a world of six billion souls and six million Baha’is the odds are small that I would be a Baha’i: one in a thousand. At least that is one simple way of calculating the odds. My belief is rooted fundamentally in an intellectual matrix that is really quite massive in its implications for increasing one’s knowledge; and one that I have spent much of my time since about 1962 pursuing in different ways. This is true in spite of the fact that my religion is quintessentially mystic, devotional. I, too, am tormented by my belief. I think this is due to my obsessive nature and my obessional belief in the Baha’i Faith over nearly four decades. This belief system has come to occupy the central place in my life. It is also a source of much joy, understanding and pleasure; so, consequently, any torment I do get is a small price to pay for the immense enrichment.-Ron Price, Pioneering Over Three Epochs, Unpublished Manuscript, 1999.
Dennis, how could you do it?
Such a clever fellow, so original.
I have my torments and travail, too.
But the mix, the blend,
the source of these torments
is quite different from your own.
And now you are gone.
Thank you for your brilliant
entertainment and insight
into the suffering of the human condition.
Help me, dear Dennis,
to capture my life and my world
in words that can move humanity,
or some section of it.

#35 Apr 5, 2006
i think i can say that i am a sex addict.
Its a constant crave throughout the day. I masterbate over 30 times aday and still feel no satisfaction. With a woman, I last for hours and hours. Finding a partner is very hard because non of my past partners can actullay fuck for 6,7,8, hours. I was thinking of joining a sex addict class just to find a suitable partner
#36 Apr 5, 2006
GOOD LUCK WITH THAT ONE........
#37 Apr 11, 2006
yes you are
#38 Apr 11, 2006
yeah yeah,if you masturbate that much, you probably have premature ejaculations, not the ability to go for hours and hours
#43 Apr 21, 2006
sex is great
#44 Apr 21, 2006
SeX is awesome....
#45 Apr 21, 2006
actually the more you masturbate in a day the longer you can last because it trains your erection to last longer, and that is a scientific fact
#46 Apr 21, 2006
The more you masturbate the more dependant you become on mental stimulation rather than physical.
