Judge sends former Gouverneur resident to prison again in 2009 traffic death

After accepting a plea deal last month, former Gouverneur resident Michael F. Lewis was sentenced Monday to 9 to 13 years in state prison in connection with the July 2009 death of his grandmother in a traffic accident, ending a legal saga marked by an appeal of his original sentence.

its an awful thing, but explain to me how josh stowell gets jail time on weekends for KILLING someone while drunk driving, and this man gets 9-13 years?

I'm not saying that the guy deserves 9-13 years, however, as the article reads, he didn't exactly have a "clean" record. Don't you know that judges take past offenses into consideration. It only makes sense. If this guy is proving himself to consistently not be law abiding, then he deserves a prison sentence. You can't even start to compare this with Josh Stowell, who is a very nice guy, who does not have a past record.

why can't you compare it to josh? He killed a man while under the influence left him on the side o the road while he drove all the way home and enjoyed his sub after a night out, went to bed & work the next day with NO guilty conscious of what he had done, he knew he hit "something" but didnt know what??? Really, its all about who you know obviously, he killed a man went to jail on weekends

This guy, though I believe he deserves some time, is not relate to any police officers and Josh was. I believe that played role in his outcome. I also believe Josh is a nice guy and accidents happen, but this is not spilling wine on a rug.

Michael deserves what he got. He has a criminal history. He always walked away with probation or drug rehad which he always failed to complete. I have heard him brag that he could do whatever and he always walked. He killed my loving mother who went out of her way for him. My mom got a life sentence so he deserves what he got. Even after he killed my mother, he couldn't leave me alone. I believe that he did this crime and deserves to do the time he got. He was a heavy drug addict and still associates with all the same people as he did when he was out. So does it really look like he changed after already doing about 3 years in prison. The family pays the price everyday for the crime that michael commited.

im not saying anything about him not getting hat he deserves, i believe in justice just as well as the next person, what i am saying is how can he get 8-13 years for being under the influence of drugs & josh stowell get jail time on weekends for RUNNING OVER and KILLING an innocent pedestrian while under the influence of alcohol?

You probably don't know about Michael's criminal past. He has a criminal history about a mile long. After he killed my mother, he kept drinking and doing his drugs right up until the day he got arrested. He got released and still kept doing his drugs which is what killed my mother. The time he got is not only for killing my mother. He had other charges. When you keep going in front of the same judge for similar crimes, the judge gets tired of seeing you and stop giving you a chance to prove that you can change your life around.

Also he would have only done 6 years for all charges had he not violated probation by consuming alcohol and violated an order of protection that was held by a family member. This is why he got more time.

you are missing the whole point here! no one is deffending michael. he shouldve gotten a longer sentence in my opinion. the point is that this josh guy shouldve gotten a real prison sentence similar to michaels not just weekends in jail!

I believe he deserves what he got for a sentence, but it shouldn't matter if one has a clean record or not, Josh killed a man a well for drunk driving and gets nothing out of it!

That is just how they do it when it comes to sentencing them. They look at your past history. Michael walked away with doing no time for crimes he had done. And then this time he gave him time. The family keep calling the state troopers to push for charges to be filed against him and the whole family attended every court date mike had. We even wrote victim impact statements for the judge to take into consideration when michael got sentenced. The family as a whole pushed it to make sure michael paid for what he did to our mother.

We were right there from day one all the court dates plus went through his appeal. And we are ready to go through another appeal if he chooses to appeal his sentence again which he has already indicated that he would if they didn't run his sentence concurrently. By the whole family it meant everybody but his parents.

Fk an accident that happened last year 1 person was killed and the Gouverneur resident who was driving walked away w/ only fkin Trafic tickets!!!!
