Divorce or seperation shouldn't be a free pass for parents to stop supporting their children. Men need to own up to their responsibilities and support their children. However, I've said this before, and I'll say it again, people need to stop depending on other humans to take care of them. Sadly, women are at a disadvanage when it comes to supporting their children financially. Of course the question begs, if the non-paying parent is in jail for not paying support, then how the heck are they going to pay while their sitting in jail? There needs to be a revamp of this punishment as it does neither the mother or the community any good. The mother still has no financial help for the children, and the community is forced to house the dead-beat until he can what??? Pay??? If he didn't pay before, what makes anyone think sitting in jail for a couple of days going to fix.
While I see the logic you are shotting for, you must understand that there needs to be some kind of penalty or consequence when they don't meet their obligation. Yes while in jail they can not pay, but chances are that after a 2 to 3 month stay, they will begin to make payments so they don't go back. In other words there is an increased chance they will begin to pay after they see the punishment as harsh and real. I have seen this have positive results although I will admit that it won't work 100% of the time. However while we are talking about deadbeat dads and moms, they are not all beer belly unemployed drunks. Most deadbeats are working indivuals with second families. They will not want to go to jail and will pay. So it's hard to make generalizations when it really is anyone can fall into this scenerio. So Jail will be a motivator to most but not to all.

I think parents should take care of their children, but if the mother can't afford the kids and the father can why not let the dads have custody. Then the mother could have visitation right.

again i havent ever been on welfare. welfare- food stamps, TANIF, HUD,or healthcare, etc.
Well, if you don't have a need for assistance, then why are you complaining about money? You seem to have it all under control. If your ex-husband isn't going to pay, then he just isn't going to pay. Maybe, this is a good time to reflect and learn from mistakes, since you have everything under control. You might consider teaching young women about the consequences of marrying a dead beat... Since you don't need any ones help.

if they sit in jail for awhile some of them pay what they owe so they can get out it's not just the men that need to pay child support the mothers do to we made the choice to have these children together so we should take care of them together i love my kids but they need their father's support as well atleast come visit them let them know you care in some way i'd like to have help with the bills but i'd rather my child be apart of their father's life more then the money

Custody will go to the parent that the court deems will provide the best environment for the child. That may not always be with the parent that makes the most money. The most important thing for a child is to have both parents involved in their lives.

The child support system is a joke the mother don't have to count child support as income for any type of assistance but the father has to claim all of his wages prior to deductions if he tries to get any type of assistance. Most of the time the mother won't do anything but have babies to get more money.
I know someone Just like that who lives in Roland. She was controlling and manipulated when my now husband was with her and now even if we r caught up with child support she threatens to get him thrown in jail, and she doesn't even take care of the child! We do and his mother! She wont give us custody of her because of the child support and taxes from us and her. And the child never even sees a dime! And after all that we have kids together as whell and she wants us to also buy the school supplies!

Actually, it's a good idea. You may think these guys are going to a resort, but trust me, Jail is not a place anyone wants to be. I worked with inmates and the ones that are there for stupid things like not paying child support usually get their act straight. I applaud the DA for at least making an effort to try something. If you ask most women that are counting on their child support to help raise thier kids, you will see that it is a fustrating and continuning battle. most have to constantaly be battleing the Attorney General's office just to get what is due to them and thier kids. My sisters are in constant battles. One is presistant and has even gotten her ex disbarred. Yes he was a lawyer, i repeat, WAS. unfortuneatly my other sister is not as strong and her ex gets a way with murder. I hope this DA makes a difference and other counties start to do the same.

I pay my support

I pay my support every month. Every dime. I get treated worse than the deadbeats that never pay and never will. If I am one day late, they are calling me with threats. Why is that? The system is so backward.
