TTR250 carb problems

Howdy from New Zealand

A mate of mine has a 2006 TTR250 which he purchased new in September 2006.

Every since he has had the bike, it has had problems. It was "surging" at "tootling" speed at about quarter throttle.

Eventually the shop concluded there was a carb problem - over the past 8 months they have replaced the main jet, drilled out the pilot jet, replaced the pilot jet etc, and it's still no better.

My mate has an older model TTR250 with exactly the same carb, so put the old carb on the new bike and it went absolutely fine.

Yamaha's pathetic excuse for this problem is that the bikes now have to be tuned to meet stricter emission controls and so probably wont run 100% right. Also they say that no-one else probably no-one else with that bike "tootles" around at quarter throttle so wouldn't encounter the problem. They dismissed that the bike went fine with the older bike's carb.

Has anyone else has a similar "surging"/carb problem with an 06 TTR250? Would appreciate your comments.

Cheers
M

If you haven't had any responses, try asking on the Yahoo TTR250 Group - helpful lot on there ;-)

I've recently purchased a 2007 TTR250 and I have this problem - yamaha nz knows the problem and sells an older TTR250 emulsion tube (don't have the number) which seems to fix the problem on most of the bikes. The bike shop changed this on mine but it hasn't worked on my bike, I think I need a throttle valve with a smaller cutaway as this richens the mixture at 1/8 throttle opening - not sure if yamaha can supply one - may have to make one!
I'll let you know how I get on.
I've got a lowering link on trademe if you are interested.

Last night (13/52007) my garage was broken into and my 2007 Yamaha TTR250 trail bike and a 2004 Beta Rev3 trials bike were stolen. I am offerering $1000 reward for info leading to the recovery of these bikes.
The Yamaha registration no is 95ZGW , the Vin number is JYADG02XX7A011613 and has a custom rear suspension link with a grease nipple.
The Beta was stolen minus the magneto cover so if you see one without this or a home made cover this could be it (I am trying to obtain the frame number).

If have any info plese contact the police.

Could you please distribute this to anyone else who is into bikes.

Steve here from Mexico NY ; I asked a question 23 hours ago and no one has a idea on what is wrong with this 360 enduro carb What kind of forum is this? Maybe I should go to Japan like John Holmes and steal one. Any mechanical suggestions could be helpful.

I have a 2004 uk model and it has a flat spot bottom end! I'm looking at pilot jet. This problem has been there before and after de-corking.

I had a similar problem with my 600 Belgarda and lifting the needle cured it.

dear Steve, seems that the needle makes its own life in the throttle valve,or maybe you didn't re-install it in the dedicated (correct) notch on it. although, about the kind of forum, to me ,it's a kind people's one, that are free to respond...or not!
