I'm looking for some help.

I have an 05 Vegas 8-Ball w/ about 13k miles.

Basically, I would ride my bike, park it over night, then when start it up, ride for a while then it would just shut down. The engine light comes on, then 6-10 miles later...it's done! First I lose the speedometer and the odometer, then the tach craps out...then...I'm trying to pop the clutch to make it to a safe place to pull off.

I replaced the battery...then..

I took it to my 'local' Victory mechanic and they said it was the voltage regulator. Since I had that replaced at a small fortune (they realize they're the only certified Victory mechanic w/ in 300 mile)...it's still doing the same thing. I don't trust them, but I feel like I have a good bike that should be more reliable than this. Can anybody add some insight??

I had a similar problem this summer during lots of rain and riding. My speedometer stopped, my tachometer, and then I found myself having trouble after I filled up with gas starting the motor for about 15 minutes, it would start the check engine light would remain on but I got it home. Since that time I have had no problems. My dealer says although he only had this situation once before and the person put in a new voltage regulator he thinks it is that and that I should replace it. The part costs $201.00 not a big deal.

2008 Vegas 8Ball, 3k miles on it. bought it brand new in 4/08.No problems until now. it was parked most of winter, took it out last week and died on me luckily @ gas station near home. got it jumped and rode back home, Had it charged to a trickler in the garage for 3 days and completely dead, so replaced original battery with new one last saturday. it started and it rode fine 'round town for three days, then it completely died again, the engine wouldn't turn and the lights won't light up period. called polaris dealership in Columbus,GA and was told it could be the Voltage Regulator or Stater (not starter). I'd have to order both b/c they wouldn't be able to confirm if is just one or the other or both.I can only bring it on Thursday or Friday and they take up to 5 days to receive parts and service it. I've read possible Coils being bad, so I'm seeking info on any other possible issues before I drop $400 or so on it. any suggestions/ past experiences?? Thanks!!

It's not the coils.......I've been having problems with my new battery not holding a charge, it bleeds off voltage as it sets for a few days..the battery I just got back in Nov.09 so after running a few test have decided to get another new battery and try again...batteries do go bad for no reason at all. BTW the way there's a guy on eBay that is selling the battery we use for 39.95 plus 15.00 shipping, it may be worth a try over the 400 the dealer wants. good luck and let us know what works for ya.

I recently tried starting my 08 hammer and it would not even turn over. No lights turned on. Then the lights would turn on but would not start. Then it started. I do have aftermarket signal lights on it. The rear signal light wire just broke and I am replacing it this weekend. Any ideas why the bike would do this. Thanks

I have a 2000 SC i bought new, rode it for about 1200 miles, I had and issue with my legs and have not ridden since. The bike sat covered up in my shop,6 months ago I tried to crank it, after a new battery and a cleaning of the fuel tank and fuel system by a dealer,($400.00) rode home, started popping and missing, The bike is now at a larger dealer for 3 months, exhaust pipes are discolored and the bike will not exceed 4000 rpm with out missing.
The dealer has changed fuel pump, computer, and cleaned the fuel system again now he says the bike has a broken valve spring. Bike does not skip until about 4000 rpm, runs fine at low rpms.
Can any one help? I might have to sell one of my kidneys to get it back.

201 dollars for a 20 dollar part. Why? Because they can.

My 2010 Vegas battery finally died so I bought an original from the dealer - again dead after a few weeks, took it back and eventually they say that there have been regulator problems with that year that could be the real root cause.
Looking at other comments it seems that there have been a number of regulator issues across a few model years.
If so - can anyone recommend an alternative reliable regulator?
Thanks - Simon

I have a 2003 Victory Vegas and the engine light came on last year riding in the mountains.....ran fine ...just the light coming on freaked me out.....You could turn it off and then back on and it would stay off for miles.....Made it home fine drove it all this summer ..no light....getting ready to go to the beach soon....the light came on today......runs fine......should I head to the beach and not worry about it or is it to the shop for me?
