I am looking at buying a 2002 Ural Tourist. The bike appears to be a good deal to me, however the miles are 14,xxx. what is the "mileage life" of a ural?

14,XXX+ is not a big deal, as long as you take care of it. These are not maintenance free machines. I own a 2007 tourist..just took a trip to the U.P. of Michigan...ran great...put on 1400 miles in about 6 days, no trouble at all.

One thing about the older ones, they will require some updating. The worst thing is the timing gears. They're cast iron and don't last that long. The heads on the 02 are the small valve type and the valves arn't that high a quality. You can tell the large valve heads by the stud and nut holding the exaust headers to the heads. The original ignition was a POS and should be replaced as well. I have an 02 and ended up putting in about 3 grand in upgrades to make it reliable. You'd be better off picking up on a newer model, look for one with the disk brake on the frount wheel. I bought mine at 8,000 clicks and it has 40,000 on it now, it's been reliable since it was worked on but I wish I'd have bought a later model, they have improved them.
