Ural Carburator Shims

I purchased a 2011 Patrol 2WD in June and have put 4270 km on her in less than three months. Most fun I have had in years.
Before taking delivery I read a posting where the owner recommended shimming the carburators for smoother operation. I told the dealer but he did not have shims in stock. For the first 500 km the engine was rough with a lot of backfiring. Shims were installed at 500 km and the engine has been as smooth as silk since. The dealer is now making them standard before delivery of new machines. Last week in Stanley, Idaho it was in the 20s in the morning and the bike was covered in heavy frost. She started on two cranks and I turned off the enrichers as soon as I could reach them and the engine idled just fine.
Be prepared for a lot of delays in your travels (UDF or Ural Delay Factor). Wherever you stop folks of all ages want to talk about the bike.
