Looking at getting a Ural and want to know if the 2wd is required for snow covered roads and some off road riding. I am looking at the Troyka. Any thoughts will help, thanks!

Chris,
I have a Patrol with 2WD,
I live in the mountain of northern Arizona where we have plenty of off road riding. I have logged numerous miles on what we would consider 4WD roads only and only very seldom have needed the 2WD option.
I have not yet had the opportunity to ride in snow, so can't answer that one.
Another thing to keep in mind is the added ground clearance of the 2WD models, very important in the back country

Urals are very durable, but are not fast. Very few real changes have been made since the one you were looking at but the new motor makes the most important ones. New German made gears are use in the front end on the crankshaft end, the camshaft end on the alternator are greatly umproved over the old Russian ones. The new Jalanese alternator itself is also a great improvement over the old Russial ones.
