I found an ad for a 2008 Kait 250, but Google doesn't show anything but a Kait 150, and the photo shows a JM STAR name.
Is a Kait and a Jmstar the same, or am I being gamed?

Kait, JMStar, Linhai, Roketa, and several others have a 250cc. They all look alike, because they are the same scooter, just different names. Many Chinese scooter Mfgs make generic motor scooters. The scooters go to a Chinese warehouse. When an American on-line distributor orders a certain brand, the Chinese distributor goes into the warehouse, picks out a scooter at random and slaps a name on it and ships it to the U.S.A. The Chinese have no copyright or patent laws.

Thanks. I thought pretty much the same but was concerned when Google showed no mention of a "Kait 250".

No click no nothing. I push the electric start and absolutely nothing happens. The kick start was broken when I purchased the scooter so that's not an option. So, no click, no turnover. Any idea?
Thanks

Ok... I bought my Jmstar 150cc (vespa wannabe) brand new. this is what went down...

Registration in Texas was a "B" But the insurance was very cheap and it passed inspection. I had to take it to several DMVs until I found one to take all my paperwork and it cost me $173 to register.

Mechanically this thing is a piece of shit... But it gets a broke college guy like me to school since im mechanically inclined.

First off the stock plug is junk.. replace it with NGK the first day you get it.. Replace ALL of the stock vacuum lines with goodyear lines. The stock ones get hot and mushy which will turn off you scoot when you least expect it.

The carb... Junk.. since they started it in 2007 and left it in a warehouse, it was ruined after 100mi but the warranty got me a new one.. so far so good.

The battery... seriously a piece of crap! I replaced my 7p with an easy to find 9p (it fits)

Horn only works when Im full thottle...:/?

Speedo Broke (gears on the wheel part)

Bike would turn off after a while of running then turn on when I got off it... but would turn off when I sat on it again.. WTF.. but I rerouted some lines to the EGR and zip tied the EGR in a more roomy position away form the storage bin. so far so good.

It doesnt have very good range 1g tank..
Decent power... buuut meh... and 50mph average (70 on the speedo.. when it worked)

shakes BAD when i brake using the front brake and believe me ABS my ass... I just dropped it today because it locked up on me.... grr.

Body parts are shabby and never fit together perfectly

Factory storage rack box is confusing to mount and crappy

Engine shakes at mid rpm (vibrates)

brakes wore down VERY quickly.(300mi) 1/2 pad

tire stem broke off just by touching it... replaced with a standard 1,1/4 stem from walmart... it fits and you can air the tire still.

Broke several pos keys that it came with.. very crappy and hard to replace.

Exhaust FELL OFF!!! and broke... welded it back together and I still need a manifold gasket ring.

!"REPLACE YOUR STOCK BOLTS"! That hold the exhaust to the engine with grade 8 bolts 8/1.25 50+ mm long. These bastards are weak and important! Mine broke and left me stranded until I could push it to autozone where I did the famous parking lot fix.

Seat is uncomfortable.. especially for two people.. but is fun to drive.

Replace your oil with break in oil

To do's... Upgrade the intake, cdi, spark wire, variant weights, exhaust, fix front shaking, speedo, buy an upgraded 200cc big bore long block engine for $400 (sweet deal online!), Upgrade clutch, belt, get bigger carb... the list goes on and can get quite expensive and I wish I had a bigger gas capacity.

So far its been the first 2 days ever without a problem and Ive been keeping track on it. Im worried about the mid rpm vibration but im thinking it may need new variation weights.

OH and remove the body panel to the engine closest to your feet.. I did.. it doesnt look too bad and keeps this bastard cool better.

constantly check for loose bolts.

All in all.. even with all these troubles, I paid $700 for this thing and put in $250 getting it registered and insured and maybe $30 total in new parts. I plan on spending $300 upgrading it a little, I just need some top end speed for my 55mph road near my home. The little shit is scary to drive but takes some "aggressive" getting used to. I guess next week I know what else breaks but until then Ill try and keep you posted.

Hello! I am going to check out a scooter tomorrow: It's a JM Star Navigator - Model YY150Y-2. I've been reading your forum and wondered if any of you have any experience (good or bad) with that particular scooter?

Thank you!

Hello, its me again. Im here to make an update on my jmstar 150cc scooter.

Well i fixed that turning off problem. It was the wiring harness and ground being pinched by the foot plate on the left side. easy fix, I just routed the harness a different way.

Yesterday I heard a grinding noise coming from the rear wheel. After some work and disassemble I found that the problem was a spun output bearing in the rear diff. Parts on order right now and came out to $15 for a new bearing and gasket.

My exhaust fell off again last month... I just left it there I was so sick of that piece of junk. I made my own "exhaust" using a little bit of steel tubing and an old 24mm socket I had laying around. I welded some steel washers into a delta style cambering muffler. Works great and keeps it very quiet at low speeds but gives me decent power.

I havent fixed the fuel or speedometer gauges.

The engine has been getting hard to start in the morning and had been difficult. but I hear valve adjustment is a common problem and I intend in doing that when my bearing comes in. could be a spark plug too...

Im using a performance cdi and coil... meh.. little bit better take off and slightly better mid-range. good $40 investment I guess.

Still spitting a small amount of oil out of the intake but i hear that is common when running at wot for a long time. which i do often on my way to school.

horn works when it wants to.

I found that using mobile 1 High performance oil can resist higher temperatures very well so I burn less. I also suggest using synthetic 90w gear oil in your rear diff, this could have saved my bearing. Because it gets very hot back there.

thats all I have, ill try and keep you updated.

Saw this very thing a week ago. Scooter and rider pulled over, no tag.(49cc scooters really need tags in GA if they go over 30, but as a general rule if it's 49cc, it gets a pass) Cop bends down to look at VIN plate, I assume sees 150cc, and out come the cuffs and in goes the "perp" for no tag, no insurance no class M/no license. In GA, the only benefit I see for 49cc that goes faster than 30 mph is no motorcycle endorsement./IANAL, that is what I was told by DDS, they wouldn't let me test on a 49cc scoot. Of course, they could be wrong. Nobody in GA really knows what is up with 49cc, even the cops. I tagged mine and insured it. Much cheaper than the above.

99% of the Chinese 150cc scooters top speed is 55-58 mph. The name doesn't mean anything. All the Chinese scooters are clones. They are Manufactured by many Companies and stored in Warehouses. A brand name is put on when the distributor for a specific brand orders them.

You haven't posted which scooter you have, what cc scooter you have, or how old it is. The new 4 stroke scooters have little or no restrictions except the CDI. Performace is determined by HP and gear ratio. You can increase top speed or torque by changing the roller weights in the variator. But it will not be significant. Changing the spark will do nothing. Changing the clutch will do the same as changing roller weights but it won't change much. A Performance pipe will increase torque but not do much for top end. And they are very expensive. Bottom line. To significantly change top end and torque will reguire increasing HP. That can only be done with a larger CC kit. If you have a 50cc scooter, install a 77cc kit, etc. But again you are getting into big bucks.
