I'm having troubles starting mine... it just makes this weird sound in the solenoid and it tries to start when jumped but never actually starts. I've even replaced the spark plug.

Hello there!
I think You have an exhaust valve problem.
The valve stem expands more than the valve clearance, thus You have more heat being created because the valve is not closing properly.
This is also consistent with the distance covered.
Now here's what You do to fix it.
1 remove the valve cover
2 use the kick start lever to turn the engine until the piston is at top dead centre (both rockers should be in the up position both valves are now closed or they should be)
use a thickness guage to check the clearance between the rocker arm and the top of the valve
3 undo the lock nut on the rocker arm
4 place the thickness guage between the top of the valve and the setting bolt on the rocker arm.
5 use 0.1mm (0.004 in)to start with.
6 turn the setting bolt until it just squashes the thickness guage.
7 remove the thickness guage, there should be a slight play on the rocker arm.
8 hold the setting bolt in place and tighten the lock nut.
9 replace the valve cover.
10 run the engine to normal temperature.
11 repeat the above sequence to check the valve clearance when hot.
12 increase the clearance if required.
13 I hope this helps

Hello !
Here is a thought I asume the scooter is belt driven,I had a similar problem with a scooter that was brought to me for repair.
The weights on the front drive pulley were stuck resulting in the pulley being in the highest ratio making it impossible to ride.
Try check the drive system.

Does it turn over but not start or is it just completely dead? If it turns over but won't start, it is usually a spark or fuel delivery problem. If it's completey dead the kill switch could be on or the back wheel break safety starter switch is not engaging.

Hello there You are in the northern hemisphere and right now going into winter the first thing to check is your choke unit it is on the left side of the carburettor it should have two wires going to it one green one yellow unplug the connector while the engine is running you should get 50 volts ac
remove the choke unit from the carb make certain it is not stuck.
next check the rubber intake tube (between the carb and the engine)
it may be split also check the little vacuum pipes from it should be two one is for the fuel shut off valve.
if that is all ok then proceed to check the clearance on the exhaust valve.
with regard to the bike cutting out when on the main stand here is a thing to check. The ignition coil is on the right side of the bike
it is bolted to the frame it has two wires on it the black wire is the live green is earth when the bike is placed on the centre stand the engine has a tendency to move downward sometimes this can pull on the coil wires if they are too short or not routed properly causing a poor connection thus lower voltage or no voltage to the ignition coil.
To be honest my guess is the valve clearance as You mention the bike is still quite new this is consistent with the problem.
I hope this will help You. If you need a comprehensive guide on how to set valves I will be more than happy to send it to you

Hello there I would think the spring you mention is on the outside of the carb if so check if it is snapped or just un hooked,
if it is broken then cut off the broken bit heat the end to form a new tab so it can be fitted as it should be.PLEASE NOTE THE SPRING IS TO BE REMOVED FROM THE CARB BEFORE YOU CUT IT AND HEAT IT UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES IS THIS REPAIR TO THE SPRING TO BE DONE WHILE IT IS NEAR A FUEL SOURCE AS THE RISK OF FIRE AND EXPLOSION IS GREAT.
With regard to the flat battery see if you get an ac voltage reading
fron the magneto before the regulator then check the voltage on the output side it should be above 13v DC must be DC IF NOT DC OR THE OUTPUT IS LESS THAN 13V THEN YOUR REGULATOR IS NOT WORKING.
I recently had a situation where a scooter was brought in with the same problem and we did some tests as above and what we discovered was the regulator was ok but while the engine was running the regulator became to hot and it no longer worked as it should have as a result of that the battery runs down,so I suggest check the things I have mentioned above and also charge the battery.I hope this helps you

You have a starter clutch that is locked up or the rear clutch is faulty
